Regent horseboxes

Fabulous!! I havent been lucky enough to be able to buy a new build off them but if I was in the position to do so they are the people I would go to. I have however dealt with them on a few occasions with alterations and repairs to 7.5t wagons Ive had and they are genuine, very reasonable and wont rip you off. I would recommend without hesitation. I did see their wagons being built when I have been there and really liked what I seen. Kent is a lovely man, has horses himself, and was very accomodating. Google them, Im sure you will find lots of great reviews

Thanks Louby. There are quite a few reviews elsewhere when I google and all seem to be more or less positive which is why I've shortlisted them. I'm going to visit the workshop too, but spending my life savings on a lorry is quite nerve wracking so want to be certain I'm not missing anything!

Id feel the same, its scary! Im not a million miles away and they have been going a good few years now and have moved to bigger better premises. I just liked the way he had time for me, despite me not buying a wagon off him. My first dealing was years ago, viewing a wagon he had for sale on behalf of someone else, sadly it wasnt suitable for what I needed but after a long search for a used one I made the mistake of going elsewhere to have one built and it was Regent who basically sorted out the mess I was left with. They went above and beyond and I really appreciated it and liked them for that. I have been back a few times for repairs etc since over the years. I appreciate this isnt really saying much about about their boxes but those I have seen out and about and in their workshop IMO were really good. Have you looked on their Facebook page, I think its much better than the website. I dont mean to waffle on but just think credit where credits due and all that lol. Good Luck in your search

Don't touch with a barge pole. It is extremely well known that Kent clocks all his vehicles. A local garage that we use for all our works vans was approached to work for them and they have refused due to the state of the vehicles they were after turning into horseboxes. The shiny paint job hides multiple evils, my friend bought one last year and returned it with the threat of court as they were so many faults on vehicle and finding 60,000 miles were taken off the clock. A lady in the same village heard and got hers checked hers was also clocked and welding on the chasis was seriously sub standard. I wouldn't allow a horse of mine in a vehicle they had produced.

Go carefully - my sister bought a second hand 3.5 from them a couple of years ago and it broke down on the way home from collecting it. They did sort it but it took ages. Since then she has had issues with the locks on the doors and ramps and the electrics. She could just have been unlucky but I would get it professionally checked over before I took it home if I were you.

Errr no he does not clock all his vehicles. Sweeping statement with no facts if ever I heard one. I have a very low mileage regent with full history, independently verified. I continue to be satisfied with the build quality and the service I have had. My only disappointment is the paint job is not the best.

Thanks Brunocat.

It's strange that a business can get such widely mixed reviews.

This really is a minefield. It's times like this I wish I was, or knew, a mechanic!

3 of my friends have regent boxes, all have had some sort of issue. Leaking, mechanical. Also agree with Brunocat the paint finish isn't as good as I'd like for the cost.

My horse box mechanic is good friends with mechanics who work for the local VOSA test station. I was told to stay away from this company due to issues with welding that have been found by the VOSA mechanics (they stated the work was rough and not up to scratch for what looked like very nice boxes from the outward appearance). This is hearsay obviously not my personal experience, but given the comment was apparently made by a VOSA mechanic who would have no reason for bias then it would make me very wary tbh.

I have no facts or first hand experience of these lorries. However am myself currently researching these and similar lorries. My main concern with these lorries is how are they being made at almost half the price of similar types? I spoke to Kent as I only have £15k to spend and it seemed doable with what he said, that then I asked my brother/dad (both mechanical, welders, and helped redo horse area of my last lorry) what their opinions and the first response I got after they looked into it was "they must be clocking those vans".

I will reiterate this is just opinion but having read comments above thought that was very coincidental.

Having thought about it further I have decided to try and get a second hand lorry made by one of the bigger/more expensive companies

Maybe not all but ones to many!!

Regent Horse box review

My wife recently purchased a Regent Horse box. On the face of it the vehicle looks impressive but once we had the vehicle a couple of days we soon realised there were many problems.

The after service has been none existent so if your buying a Horse box from Regent please get the vehicle throughly checked. Or you may have to spend a further £3500 to make things right

As stated in previous threads forget the shiny stuff but concentrate on the underlying mechanicals.... with any company check out the donor van first...most are end of life commercials which are then converted...
I would source your own van with a great history from a great source and then approach any horsebox builder to convert that!
At least you’ll know the underpinnings are solid! Don’t worry about dents and scratches because they are going to cut the body off and skip it anyway!

Does anyone have any reviews/experience of Regent horseboxes? Thanks
Do not touch them, ramps made out of cheap shutter ply, no drip channel above ramp, rain blows in, roof light leaking and paint peeling off, Kent rude to me on FB
Does anyone have any reviews/experience of Regent horseboxes? Thanks

My wife's horsebox (Ascot brand, but built by Regent) has exactly the same problem with the ramp. It's currently being repaired by a reputable commercial vehicle garage who understand horse boxes and their problems. They will also fit a drip channel above the ramp and doors to ensure that rain does not just run down into the ramp.

She has had the horsebox for around four years and it has cost a fortune in repairs. It has just had two diesel injectors replaced meaning that all four have now been replaced.
