Set off to the PC hunter trial there this weekend- I was home for a few days and so went along as groom/ pep-talker extraordinaire (if you ask Al, she'll probably tell you I'm the most annoying person to coursewalk with though!).

They were doing the 2'6 class to give him a fun round, and the 3' class (the only 2 classes that they ran). Walked the courses and they were worlds apart! The 2'6 was very sweet and inviting and small, and the 3' had some serious questions in it which caused some serious "He's not ready!!" comments from Al. The biggest question was a ditch off a fairly tight turn with 1 stride up a fairly steep hill to a full-up, very skinny rolltop. Currently, they are slightly iffy on ditches and skinnies, so this was rather scary for Al to see!

Set off round the 2'6 and he was a bit speshul the whole way round. Al used the round to remind him that XC wasn't all about attack and that he could get deep and be steady (he's never fast, he just motors). The round looked nice, but the photos are amazingly bad- links here:

(in the double, the ground on landing was very deep, and he got a bit buried in front when he landed so managed to fit 3 strides into a double that 13hh ponies were doing 1 or 2 in!)

In the 3' Al attacked the course more, and he powered round. They pinged the hanging log in the water which made us all very :D :D :D. They got to the ditch, and Al was so focussed on jumping the skinny she didn't give him enough of a reason to jump the ditch so he stopped. Second time round, she angled away from the skinny and rode more positively and he pinged, so she took him round the long route. I watched nearly 10 horses before I saw her attempt, and only 3 jumped through it... The rest of the round was lovely- there were a few more skinnies including a solid arrowhead and a wishingwell after a large box fence. The second ditch he just pinged- didn't even look! What a brave pony, eh? Photos here:

Didn't get a rosette in either class (too fast in the first and obviously not competitive in the second) but lots of confidence and experience so a very successful day out. Pity the photos aren't up to much- although we're considering buying the one of the arrowhead from the 3' class.

I can offer unwritten essays and copious coffee if you get to the end of this absolute epic!

Ooooh - super well done! The 3ft was mighty meaty!!!

I was there and due to do both (I think i chatted to you in the warm up of the 2'6 - i was moaning - sorry, i'm usually much perkier!!) But I W/D from the 3ft as my baby isn't yet 5 and that course really was a PN so too much of an ask for her at this stage. Plus she stormed round the 2'6 and i didnt want to knock her baby XC confidence!

The coffin - skinny combo was catching EVERYONE out! And hardly anyone got over the water first time, so well done there. I think a friend said only 15 went clear in the p/c class and there were alot of entries, so that is a testament to the techicality and height of the course.

Glad you had a good day - I was super pleased too :)

Also - i can't believe you fitted 3 in there:eek:!!! It walked at 1 and a half. I got one on my pony/horse!! What super adaptable legs your lovely horse must have :) !!

Yep- we were saying that you wouldn't find half those combinations in a BE100, let alone a BE90! She's entered the ODE there in May, doing the 1m as we think that that looks a lot kinder!! Will you be doing it?

What were your colours- I think it was very likely, as mum and I will tend to chat to whoever rocks up! Only 15 clears? Wow- she had 2 stops and took a learner fence, so probably wouldn't have been too far down the order :O

pedilia- apart from the one where his legs are going a little mad over the little rolltop, they aren't really. He just looks very 'himself', which generally is a little bit dim!

ETA- yes, he's like a cat! Especially as he's a very leggy 16.3hh... Think it's his hurdling/ p2p-ing background where he learnt to keep on his feet and keep going at all costs I suppose.

This is me:

And I think, I did the right thing W/D - the course was huge and we are going to Stratford Hills XC clear round to do the 2''6 and 3ft there next weekend (have 2'9's gone out of fashion all of a sudden - becuase that would be the perfect height for us right now!!) so hopefully she will keep her confidence from this weekend and use it for the 3ft there.

I dont really know what our plans are for her - I guess all at her own pace (which seems pretty speedy lately  ) and I do want to get her out to some ODE's soon, so we may make an appearance in may!

Oh! You were on the lovely colour my sister and I sat and admired while we were waiting for the second class! She's stunning :) We were in the lorry just over from you with the completely insane puppy and very dopey horse.

Why thank you :D I'm glad you liked her!

Sorry I was so miserable in the warm up - it was wierd how it went from 15 to go to 23

Nevermind, a good day was had by all in the end :D

In the end, Al went up and tried her luck and asked "Can I go now please?" and they said yes, despite there still being lots before her- we went from 12th to go to 25th and he was ready and about to go off the boil... Next class ran much better!
