Could anyone recommend a farrier for this area please?

Alex mercer, registered and remedial farrier, i think he is very good. He worked for the DAC for a long time before becoming a private farrier (i used to use him when he still worked there) so he has loads of training and experience - without being to pricey! (£60 for us but knowing farriers they charge a different amount for different people :P)

I use Eddie Kopel (sp!)weve used him for over 4 years and can't reccomend him enough. He is fantastic with toto as he can be a bit funny with strangers but hes really quiet, patient and never gets angry with him so now tote just falls asleep on his bum! He's a great farrier too

Martin Deacon is excellent but I very much doubt he will take on new clients.

I used him when I was younger, then tried to get him back a couple of years ago after a horsey break and had no luck

Andy Brown :). will try to pull up his contact num. Great guy never had any cause for complaint, had him for years. Also put a lot of work into my old timers feet after he was diagnosed with cushings and had severe pedal bone rotation. Good chap :)

Ps Luke brown is his brother. Have had him before but personally prefer andy :o and one of my horses didn't like Luke's apprentice :p. this was years ago though.

I use (and thoroughly recommend) Richard Spence but he is based in Melton Mowbray so might not cover your area but it would definitely recommend you give him a call to see. If not, then my second choice would be Luke Brown as I've used him before and never had any problems with him.

Richards's contact details can be found here: (the other name and contact details are for his dad, Stuart as they work together)

Took me back on last September, so maybe things have changed. Always worth a shot in my book....the worst that can happen is that he says no!

Not 100% sure if he covers up to Loughborough, but I can't say enough great things about James Clowes, he really is fantastic!
