We have a 16.3 6 year old ISH mare who is a complete poppet but for about 7-10 days per month she is a complete hussy. Last year we briefly tried her on regumate which worked a treat but my 18 year old daughter does all the feeding etc and that’s not ideal plus I don’t know if we need anything as potent as that. She isn’t moody just very distracted and in frantic search of anyone/everyone in case they will fulfil the all consuming need to “scratch the itch” we are hoping to step her up to novice this year so im mindful of steering clear of prohibited substances, she has a great temperament all year round which doesnt need managing, so I’m looking for advice from anyone else who might have a hormonal mare but more Bonni€ blu€ than cranky old hag😂😂

Have you spoken to the vet about alternatives like a marble? It is inserted and simulates being pregnant so no more seasons! Can be very effective. If your mare responded well to Regumate its definitley worth a try.

There is an injection called Improvac that you could speak to your vets about. I know that Miri Hackett uses it for her big chestnut mare who struggles with her seasons.

I had one with a mare marble. It worked well. Sadly, she expelled it after a year!

Mr Red took her for the appointment to have it inserted. He came back very embarrassed and said she seemed very moved emotionally and very much enjoyed having it inserted. He was a novice horse handler in many ways and was abashed LOL.
