Regumate - any negatives I need to know?

Although they have taken the edge off, the herbal supplements I've given to my mare only go so far. She is still very sore around her stomach and cannot tolerate any pressure (leg when riding, hand when grooming).

Vet has recommended regumate. I'm happy to go for it but, in the interests of balance, Am interested to know if anyone had experienced any unpleasant side effects?
 
Not sure if it's still the case, but years ago when I lived in the States, no girls/women of reproductive age were allowed to handle or administer it at the show yard where my kids rode.

Just a point to note, but then again that was 15 years ago so maybe things have been made safer.

Yes - that's still the case. I know I'll have to be careful - take enough drugs of my own to stop my own 'seasons'! 😉
 
I am considering trying regumate. My mare is very girthy, and doesnt like front of rugs being done up, she is generally grumpy, she can be very affectionate but she will also randomly bite.

She was put on a bute trial and was still aggressive, she eas then scoped and they found old ulcers, low grade these were successfully treated and she scoped clear. Then treated for hind gut ulcers as she was still grumpy and girthy. We still follow an ulcer friendly regime but I am wondering if I should look at the hormonal route.

Is regumate a year round thing? Does anyone think its worth a go with my mare?
 
I had my wb mare on it for three years straight.

Did wonders for her seasons,completely stopped them. The only think I noticed was that she put on a lot of weight even bring worked six days a week and on a lami paddock and soaked hay nothing else.

Within six months of coming off it she dropper to the right weight

I didn't know this! I used to give it to a pony who's owners I worked for and never took care not to touch it. Useful info thank you!
We didn't notice any side effects only good.

This is NOT an urban myth!

Any vet prescribing Regumate should make it known that it can have exactly same effect on a human female and to be careful when handling it.

If you mix your feed with your hands buy a box of those thin, plastic disposable gloves
