Hi has anybody any experience of using regumate as i have a grumpy, moody mare!! and was thinking of trying it,did you see a big difference?is it easy to administer?how soon did it work?....many thanks:rolleyes:

Regumate Porcine is regularly used to regulate seasons in very hormonal mares. The dosage is around 6ml per day which you syringe onto their feed. You have to be VERY careful handling it and always wear gloves, but the results are generally v good and have fast results. It's sort of like the Pill for horses.
It IS quite expensive and of course, if you're thinking of using it, you must speak to your vet.

Yes, but only to regulate my mares cycle for AI. The pig regumate is cheaper and is exactly the same stuff as the equine one - only horse owners have mugs written on their foreheads and yes allways wear surgical gloves when handling unless you want your hormones doing strange things you thought they couldnt!

my friends pony has just been prescribed this, she was bought as a firstpony 18 months ago and has been brilliant up until this spring. She is now so hormonal can barley walk some days for squirting and peeing all over the place. She is 6 years old now, do you think that it is because she has physically matured ?. She will start her on it asap as mare and child really fed up now.

didn't help my very hormonal mare went on to try the marbel but that didn't last long--(spat it out) -- we ended up scanning and she had 2 very large eggs she had not released so had injection to help release them

she seemed to be in season forever without a break until the injection

now we have her on chasteberries and once they got into her system we have had regular cycles with no nasty face pulling or mood swings

like all things can work on some but not others its trial and error
there is a product called hormoneaze(sp) but expensive i think feedmark do one

Refreshing this as I have just been "given" a new mare that also has bad hormone probs. Dont want to pile in too hard straight away and just try the herbal or supplement route first. She is a 14 year old NF. Thin and ribby but generally nice natured so want to give her a go.
