Regumate help please !!

Due to not showing any outward signs of being in season and totally ignoring the stallion after two visits to stud, my vet has just started my mare on a 10 day course of Regumate. The problem is my vet has told me to just wait until she comes into season after the 10 day course, which should take between 7-10 days ie take her back to the stallion after a week. However, the stud is telling me to have her jabbed with another type of hormone straight after the Regumate is finished ???
So now I'm confused and need advice please .....

Ps the mare has been scanned a couple of times and everything inside appears to be working as it should.

I'm new to breeding and one of my mare's has been easy to get in foal and this one is being a nightmare !
 
Regumate is a progesterone therefore inhibits the release of LH and delays ovulation. It is normally paired with a hormone treatment such as hCG (human chorionic gonadotrophin) to synchronise ovulation (hCG will induce ovulation) or a GnRH antagonist (gonadotrophin releasing hormone) which i think will be more precise therefore the stud will know exactly when to cover her for the best results!
 
Ask AndyPandy, he knows everything about Regumate, Infact he is probably the most knowledgeable person on all things breeding related!
I personally don't use Regumate, never have - sorry I can't help!
 
The stud want your mare to be jabbed with prosteglandin which will bring her back in to season quicker.

Are the stud doing the pregnancy work? If so just send her back to stud and let their own vet do the work on her. Will make your life and theirs so much easier.
 
We had a mare come in the day after she came off the regumate. The plan was to pg (prostaglandin) to speed her up, but she was already coming into season. The stud need her that quick to check her to stand a chance of catching her.
 
I would recommend Regumate for 10 days. Inject PG (prostaglandin) on day 10, which will destroy the corpus luteum and will initiate estrus in the mare. Scan at day 13/14 and inseminate based on the vet's assessment - usually day 15-17 from the start of Regumate treatment.

Regumate alone will work, but it will be much less accurate than when using PG. Also, because it is only a progestin (not a progesterone), it is not 100% at holding off ovulation - about 1/20 mares will ovulate during the Regumate treatment, making it pretty useless.

You'd be better off using P&E protocols, but that's a whole new kettle of fish, and the majority of vets in this country are terrified of using something different.

Regular palpation and ultrasound scans are the best way forward. Teasing is not always useful as sometimes the mare will only show in estrus towards the end of the ovulation window.
