I think there was something not quite right with the first batch I was given

The huge reaction from Grace was like nothing I had ever witnessed from her (she has a lot of chances to be like that, having to remove stitch abscesses from the colic scar being one) but it was not until I went back in the afternoon that I realised the syringe had actually melted at the top, as had the Regumate plastic cap. All the writing had come off the syringe too where the Regumate had dripped

I spoke to the vet and he organised for me to pick a new one and he recommended syringing it in for a few days until she got used to it. Although there was obviously something not right with the first lot.

I syringed it in yesterday with some golden syrup and there was absolutely no reaction at all. I gave her a feed straight after to see whether she would still eat (she has been known to go on a starvation period after being wormed, having bute syringed in etc etc) and she ate it all in one go and was wickering at me for more.

So this morning, after her breakfast, I put 12ml Regumate in with some Healthy Hoof, Cool Condition cubes (which she loves) and some speedi beat but she wouldn't touch it (although no huge reaction)

So I put some Doctor Green in (TopSpec supplement which is an appetite stimulant) and some golden syrup and hey presto, she ate the lot

So fingers crossed we may have solved that issue!

Thistle, no this second batch is absolutely fine... syringe and cap still intact! The first batch did not seem oily really at all, but from when I last used it I knew it should be.

I am so worried about what would have happened if she had eaten it... thank god she is a fussy lady. If it does that to plastic, god knows what it would have done to her!!!

How interesting! I read your first post but did not comment as I did not have anything to suggets. Clever Grace! She knew all was not well with that first batch! Hope it's all easier to feed from now on and it makes a difference!

Sorry to butt in on the post, but could someone tell me how long Regumate takes to work and if you have to give all year or just when in Season.

Thanks

So pleased you have success. (and just a little worried about that first batch. My goodness--if you had given it to her? It doesn't bear thinking about!)

Been following your Grace saga with great interest - there are some interesting parallels with my mare! What a good thing she's fussy and wouldn't touch the first batch.

My mare is incredibly picky, haven't heard of this doctor green before, is it wasy to get hold of?

She has a very sweet tooth

Today she ate it all without even so much of a sniff. I put full amounts of the Dr Green in and she ate it in record time (she is actually a pretty slow eater)! I am just so grateful she is eating it because I really didn't fancy syringing it in every morning!
