Regumate - when to go back on?

Sorry to piggy back your post, but I'm looking to put my horse on it this year as she's horribly hormonal. What does it cost you and is it more effective than over the counter hormone supplements, which I spend an arm and a leg on

I had planned on putting my mare back on it in April because her seasons get bad in May (they are manageable in March), but because of the warm winter, she never really stopped cycling, so she's pretty much been on it since last year. Depends on your mare I think. If she becomes dangerous when she is in season like mine does, I would start as soon as possible.

To answer notimetoride's questions, it's very expensive, about £150 for the big bottle but it's absolutely the only thing that works for my mare. I will never ever take her off it again, it's not worth it for my safety or hers. When she's on it, she's the sweetest thing in the world, but god help you when she's in season. There are some other options (injection/marbling) but someone else has to speak about those.

Thanks for that. His long does a big bottle last you

Just to say...ask your vet for a prescription and get it online. Mine charges nearly £200 for the bottle but £15 for a prescription and then I get it for around £105 online. 1litre bottle lasts around 3 months for mine but it depends on the dosage that your vet recommends.

Thanks almostthere, I meant to do that last time round but it was an emergency and had to get it in a hurry! Where do you get it from?

Notimetoride, the big bottle usually lasts me a good few months (think the longest was from mid-July to Oct) but my mare is a very petite 15h, so she only gets 8ml.
