hi, i have been advised to put my 3yr old mare on regumate.she is 16.1hh and gets very clingy to mares. just want to know about the monthly costs involved in this. i have tried oestrus by naf...but this has made no difference to her at all. she seems to come into season very often a squirts at all horses, both sexes. any help or advice would be greatly appreciated as i dont have a huge budget. many thanks

Regumate is very expensive - about £115 for a litre of the porcine think the equine is the same. Presumably she will need at least 10mls a day so you are looking at £2.00ish per day. Have you had a vet check for cysts and and any abnormalities and does she stay in season all year round?

I trialed regumate for month and it made such difference that vet suggested inserting marble. It works in similiar way as coil, cost me £80 and much happier mare:D

Whilst at stud, the porcine version was costing me about £50 per month (500kg mare). Def cheaper than equine version but I guess it depends on your vet and whether they'll 'bend' the rules for you and save you the money?

my mare was on it for 21 days prior to foaling. you can buy it on internet with prescription from vets. i only needed a small bottle and it was just as cheap from vet. cant remember but i think it was in the region of £30 for the bottle.

Also, especially if you are female, please consider the dangers of handling it yourself. It is not good for human reproductive systems and I'm sure it affected me when I used it for my mare.

I tried pretty much every mare supplement going for mine when she was younger and the best results I found were with Global Herbs Frisky Mare Plus (promise I don't work for them, despite me posting twice about them today!).
