After a rocky start I am now in a great place with my new mare.
I got her in December. She was great for the first 6 weeks or so. Then I started feeding her. She got awful
Hives. She hated every saddle despite saddlers saying they fitted and was generally miserable and aggressive. I have now sorted saddle and food issues. She is super again
In the middle of the diagnosis we put her on Regumate in March. She was definitely hormonal as well. I have kept her on it as I didn't want to change anything as we were in a good place.
However she is now permanently turned out with my other mare. Who interestingly for the first time hasn't been hormonal this year. She used to be with my geldings and was such a flirt.
So... I don't believe in over medicating. What would be your strategy going forward? When we put her in it she was violently kicking out and being really difficult on a three week cycle. Never buy a mare in winter is now on my check list ??
