Has anybody tried rehabilitation livery? My horse injured RH suspensory last Aug and has undergone treatment and an exercise rehab program since then, which has required once or twice daily visits from me for hand walking, hand grazing, and more recently, riding. I have a full time, v hectic job and keep him on part livery, as I knew before I bought him that I would never have time to visit him every day.
However - his recovery has just taken a backwards turn, and the vet has now recommended that he undergo surgery, followed by another 6 month rehab program, including first 12 weeks on box rest.
I hate the thought of not doing his rehab myself, as I've always wanted to know that if anything went wrong, there was nothing else that I could have done. But - if I carry on needing to take this amount of time off work, I'm likely to lose my job - so I'm thinking I really dont have any choice, as I need a job to pay the bills and he needs the exercise rehab program.
Can anybody recommend somwhere in South East? Any bad experiences? Any idea how much money this is likely to cost?

Edie Neill does rehab livery sometimes, if Rayne Essex isn't too far it may be worth calling her. Can vouch horses get top class care.

Theres a lovely yard near me with a very experienced YO who is an event rider. She has had horses go to her for livery when they have had injuries. She is very experienced and kind. I would certainly have no problem sending my post op baby to her. PM if you are interested and I will give you her details. She is in the SE as well.:)

Is Hertfordshire too far? There's a place called Diamond Equestrian that advertise that they are often used for rehab. (I have no connection with them BTW)

Where exactly in the south east are you looking? I know North Farm Stud do it (usually for racehorses) but they are in Lambourne area.

What does he need in terms of rehabilitation? If really serious why not contact liphook equine hospital and ask for their recommendations? Years ago they packed my horse off to a specialist TB recovery as he needed to swim. Or does he simply need walking out in hand etc x times a day in which he could come and keep my friends horse company who is currently doing just that!

thanks to everybody for their replies. Herts/Berkshire/Bucks would all be doable - as I commute round the M25 most days.
You've given me some great leads to follow up. Its very scary thinking of handing over my horse's rehab. But - the rehab wont be too bad and we've done it before. box rest, hand walking twice a day (or horse walker), then ridden work at a walk every day for 8 weeks. Its just finding the time. At least I now know that my horse can cope with it all - so long as he gets some time hand grazing every day.
