Can I scream? The absolute horror of my horse, wrapped in cotton wool for months, with perfect ultrasonic resolution and healing of a front suspensory lesion, finally back under saddle and now BOOM. Chaos.
I had the audacity to hand walk her this afternoon for fifteen minutes (which is our normal routine, actually), a bit before our planned ride. Seems so idiotic now, considering she's mad in season and it was windy and I didn't bother to use a chain. My darling husband walked by with a wheelbarrow and up she went. Must have surprised even herself with the violence of it as she tipped onto her side/rump, thankfully not her back or neck, rolled onto her side, sprang up, and ran through the now open gate (thank you, again, husband!) full tilt into the slippery, deep slop of our winter field. She got a couple laps in the thirty seconds before I was able to corner her.
So no heat in the the old suspensory injury site- yet- and all 4 legs cold hosed. Fingers crossed for her legs after speed over a terrible surface and very little fitness above a walk Slight reaction to palpation of her croup and more in the hamstring on the side she fell. Not lame-yet- and seems to be tracking ok and weight bearing in stall. Would the hamstring be more likely an overuse strain or tear from the gallop? Some bruising? Would a pelvic fracture be fairly immediately obvious? These things seem to have a habit of happening after the end of vet business hours
