Hi all

I am looking at showing my 4 yr old ex racer in the summer.

Anyone know the attire for ROR classes?

Are grackle nosebands allowed?

Thanks

Hi there...
Oh how I love ex racers!
Ok so have you looked on the ROR website?
You need to register your horse which I think is a fee of £10.
Not sure about the noseband thing but its pretty much the same as a normal showing class, dress code etc.
Judges sometimes ride your horse and ask to get off and trot up in hand.
is what I like is it wasn't always about who's got the best outline etc they did look at temperment a lot, which horse is most calm etc, if you need to know anything feel free to PM me.

grakel is a no,no. you need a plain hunter type bridle with plain cavesson noseband and plain or coloured browband. dont go for anything to chuncky as it will swamp the head. you should wear beigh jodz, shirt and tie, with a tweed jacket. black jacket is saved for evening performances...

Generally in RoR (Retraining of Racehorses) classes which are all hickstead/HOYS qualifiers, people turn out true to type. So either a tweed with a plain bridle for a hunter stamp, with a coloured browband for a riding horse, or a navy jacket with a coloured browband for a hack type.
The rules state that it will be judged as per a riding horse class - ie in terms of format - but that doesn't mean you HAVE to turn out as a riding horse or that you HAVE to have a RH stamp to do well.

Grackles would be a no no, plain flat cavession nosebands are conventional. No other "gadgets" - martingales etc. don't forget you ALWAYS have a judge ride in RoR classes so need to have appropriate tack (size of stirrups, style of saddle) to accomodate potentially a large male rider.

Judges riding are less likely in the other socieities and some of the many unaffiliated classes.

Have a look for ex-racers club classes-you can use a grackle for their classes if that's what the horse goes well in, and any lumps and bumps that were incurred during racing are allowed. Judge rode my boy at all of the ROR classes he did over the last couple of years.

Can I just point out that the RoR qualifiers hickstead/HOYS qualifiers are two completely different competions run by two different organisations.

RoR run the Hickstead qualifiers and SEIB run the R2R qualifiers for HOYS - at the SEIB Qs the horse will be ridden by a ride judge. website http://www.racehorse2ridinghorse.co.uk/

Hickstead quals are run under different rules and I think there are a couple of different types of competition for this - website http://www.ror.org.uk/

When you say you are wanting to show your horse, which class do you mean exactly? My friend does all the county shows for racehorse to riding horse every year and she rides in a flash with martingale for the jumping then, takes the martingale off for the showing (sometimes) but leaves the flash on. She has never been asked to change the tack and is always placed.

It all depends on how well he does with his schooling and if he gets over excited at shows, he is only 3 ( 4 next month) so i am in no rush. The only reason i asked about a grackle was because when he is excited he sticks his tongue out!

I currently school him in a plain cavesson so hopefully once we get used to going to local shows we can move onto county shows.

thanks :-)
