My 6 year old horse is unfortunately going to have some exploratory surgery shortly on her stifles and depending on what they do is likely to have a period of box rest and then controlled exercise. I am just thinking about this process (and dreading it!!) particularly as she is very bonded to her field companion so I can't see the box rest being particularly restful when her friend is out in the field.

Has anyone used a rehabilitation livery/centre for this type of rehab period and for bringing back into work? If there are any stories about how that worked out/if it was a good option they would be gratefully received. Also if anyone has any recommendations or has used this type of service in the South East (south of London rather than Essex) that would be fantastic.

Thanks for any advice in advance. Sandy

I ran a rehab yard for many years and am more than happy to chat if you would like to ask anything. Feel free to PM me. ?

I was very tempted to send Robin away when he was on box rest. I spoke to the insurance and they would pay part of it. I wasn’t so worried about the rehab part but the box rest was hell. I’m not sure how much it would have been but I would definitely consider it if the situation arose again.
