Hi
Can anyone suggest a suitable yard that can undertake in hand walking, up to 40 mins a day after 3 months for a horse with a tendon injury?:(

Do you mean for three months or in three months time?

My pony was at priory farm horse rehab centre for box rest and then walking starting for 5 minutes and going up to an hour twice a day after a broken splint bone and he also had individual turnout starting for 5 -10 minutes again building up to most of the day at the same time as they have "sick paddocks" suitable for horses recovering from an injury that need gradual build up of restricted turnout.

My pony went on the big horse walker as he did not need to go on the roads or straight lines and the vet said he could go on the horse walker as it is really big. They had some horses there with tendon injuries when I was there and they were going on the walker as well. However I think they do in hand walking if your horse could not go on the walker. The head girl is very competent with strong horses and ponies so even if your horse is quite spirited they can cope. It is a nice calm quiet place and the rehab horses all in the same block and have a good set routine which helps as they always have company.

My 6yo gelding has been at Priory Farm Stables since middle of December on strictest box rest with a pedal bone fracture. I cannot recommend them highly enough! The care is immaculate, the stable always spotless. He gets groomed daily and his rugs are always changed morning and evening. He always has a haynet in front of him and gets plenty of TLC. The atmosphere is really peaceful and quiet, and Mary & Abbie are very knowledgeable. In fact they were highly recommended by my vet. As soon as my horse's x-rays are good enough, he will start his walking programme there.

Check out their website: www.horserehab.co.uk

Good luck!

ha - fine question at the moment! Been debating sending him back to you. Been lame last 3wks with some kind of bruising/abscess issue in his foot - bounding pulse, hot foot, sure spa would do it good. Finances sadly lacking. Up until now he was doing perfectly - rest of rehab went to plan, been out winning everything we've entered including Tweseldown BE90 - even got his mugshot in H&H mag the other week. Thanks for asking :D Happy to recommend - sorry for not putting more detail - was on phone in between consults!
