Rehome, Loan or PTS?

I'm glad my seller didn't think that last year! I know plenty of good homes still buying.
It's irresponsible to sell to a home simply because they have the asking price, but a decent vetted home is fine. Not everyone wants to buy a foal or rehome...

That's great news op :)

I don't think anyone who has had to PTS an animal for whatever reason found it to be the easy option. It takes guts to do what is best for the animal even if it's difficult for the owner to accept that. PTS is not barbaric, it's a pain free, stress free death; what is barbaric is passing the pony from one home to the other.

Spot on Booboos.

Really pleased it looks like you can work it out :)

Saving a bit in the summer is a great idea. Also try different sorts of bedding, or deep litter to save a bit?

Not quite sure he knows what hes let himself in for, actually wanting to learn about horses and their ways. (im very used to doing everything and managing by my self) But on the plus side if she kicks him in the nuts again, i can tell him its a learning experience! :D

Bless him he is a keeper My oh has gone from knowing nothing and not wanting to to loving them almost as much as I do and spending all his hard earned money looking after them. He was made redundant recently and he is terrified as much about what it means to the ponies as it does to feeding and housing us

I didnt want to push him into horses, my ex who i left seven moths ago, had never actually seen my horses and i was with him for seven years!

Im not the kind of person to talk to anyone about things, as im used to just getting on and doing things by myself, so him turning round and supporting me like this has actually blown my mind a bit.

I'm glad this has turned out well.

Twelve years ago I was given a lovely little New Forest Mare she was 12 then, the owner no longer wanted her. She is fully registered with the New Forest stud book. She had bred several foals ,but not with me. She was untouched ,wild and very nervous. At the time I thought I would be able to tun her into a driving pony but she was so frightened I just left her.

Slowly over the next few years I gained her trust and today 12 years down the line she has been the most wonderful companion for the youngsters. she is treated the same as the others including a large vets bill when she was very ill.

There are homes out there that are kind and trusting that would take on a companion pony.

I know times are hard but such a pony does not cost a lot. My little girl lives out 24/7 all year. Lives on Hay and a bit of Senior Mix, she is trimmed every six weeks and has her vaccinations and worming.
