Rehoming - 10mth old cocker x pointer

Biccie really sorry to hear this, Rocky was one of my favourite forum dogs and I always looked forward to hearing about his exploits, I am not going to pry but it is clear you adore him and would not be doing this but for exceptional personal circumstances and I hope you are OK.

Hope he gets the 5* home he deserves and it would be fab if he could go to a working or sports home.

'Don't want to be rude but the kind of personal reasons that are personal and irrelevant for rehoming. '
To a prospective homer, yes. If actually the personal reasons are that he is very energetic etc. and you can't cope, people need to know that. Why can you not say it's because you are not allowed to keep him, are ill, no money or whatever? Can't imagine what personal reasons there are that cannot be broadly described unless there is actually a reason that people might think is a bit poor, i.e new baby, don't want a dog anymore, bored of dog. Just sounds dodgy to me tbh.
Hope he finds a nice home,

Stop being so rude and intrusive. Personal reasons mean exactly that PERSONAL!

I hope you find a 5* home, I'm sure you will.

There have been a couple of posts for rehoming to personal reasons and I think they should be respected, the op has stated the dog is brilliant and is much loved and is being rehomed due to no fault of his. So why anyone wants to know the nitty gritty of someones personal life is beyond me.

Biccie he is a super dog and I hope you find someone deserving of him and things pick up for you in the future.

Thanks eveyone for the kind words. It is a horrible situation and one I would wish on no-one. He is a much adored dog and if there was a way round it I would find it so I could keep him.

I'm currently waiting to hear back from the police to see if he would suit them so fingers crossed on that one - thanks for the great idea, not one I'd thought of!

He would do really well in any home as he is a pet to us so fits in well in a "normal" household, but I think he would thrive in an agility / working / yard / farm household as well as he does love his work.

He's fab in water and likes a good swim (he loves having baths, which is good as he also loves muddy puddles!) so would do well at water retrieval work. He will also run alongside horses or bikes if that's your thing.

He's currently asleep on the rug at my feet after having a hard day playing at the yard with another dog and having had his tea (lamb ribs tonight - yummy!). This will be it now until I wake him to go in the garden for a quick wee before he goes in his crate which could be anything from now until I go to bed - he's not fussed! He'll stay in his crate without a peep until I get him up at 6am as I'm getting ready for work (boo - first day back!).

He is such an easy dog I've been very lucky. Although I will miss him dreadfully when he's gone, he's so happy go lucky that he will slot right in a new home - as long as he has lots of ear loving and someone to throw his balls/toys for him he'll be happy!

He really is a lovely looking dog and sounds like a real gem. It is totally clear that you love him to bits and you are determined to find him the right home. Fingers crossed the police take him, he seems the kind of boy who would thrive in a working environment. Who ever has him will be very lucky.

Wishing you all the best of luck, to you and Rocky

((hugs))

Update - Met police currently do not need sniffer dogs, Kent police I am waiting to hear back from.

HOWEVER! We may have found a lovely private home not too far from us. A family who will treat him as the pet he is, but who live out in the sticks :p so have a nice lot of land for him to roam and enjoy... Fingers crossed on that one.

Apart from that I have put a post on agilitynet to see if there is anything that side, and emailed a few local agility clubs to see if any members are looking for a new dog to bring on.

I will find him the RIGHT home!

Oh no, now I've made myself cry.... :o

Have absolutely everything crossed for you (((( ))))

what a beautiful dog, I'd have him in a heartbeat but I just don't think my bitch is ready to share us yet with another dog. I wish you all the best for Rocky and hope he gets the perfect home. I also wish you the best too as it sounds like you're having a crappy time xx

Ooh, don't! No doubt you are doing this because you have to. He will have a lovely life. :)

Now it's getting harder - we have three interested homes (suitable sounding, but obviously we need to do checks) already and I am now worrying I'll make the wrong decision. They all seem absolutely fantastic but offer different things. How do you decide?? Is it just gut feel?

Actually having interested homes is making it all so real - in a way I was hoping no-one would want him so I am forced to keep him (even though I know that is not possible and I can't).

I will be a nightmare when he goes - I pretty much wrote a book on his likes and dislikes etc when I just went away for a weekend and he stayed with my friend who had him for puppy daycare anyway! Just imagine how much I'll write for his new family.

I am going to miss him so much it still seems a bit unreal at the moment. I can't imagine being without him.

Anyway, enough self-pitying moping from me for the evening (and I've not even had a glass of wine!)

No wine? But it's nearly 7pm!

Can you do home checks? Ultimately, you sound like you need this done, so check them as much as you can then make that horrible, but necessary decision. Have a huge drink!

Only no wine because I am trying to be healthy for the new year - but I am very close to just saying s0d it!

My puppy daycare lady (PDL for short) has just dropped Rocky home. She apologised for being late but had a very good excuse... A lady she has known for donkeys years had been admiring Rocky today at their yard. Unknown to my PDL however the lady had been looking to take on another dog as she very sadly lost her springer on Boxing day last year (well, year before as it is now) so were down to just her terrier.

After much admiring and chatting she went and got her existing dog to see how they got on. And it looks like she might want to take him on. I've not met her yet but trust my PDL in that she will offer him a fantastic home, and he will be able to spend a lot of time at their yard so my PDL will still see him regularly. After checking I was happy with it in principle my PDL is going to pass my details to the lady so we can have a chat and meet etc. Fingers crossed.

Hi all

Thanks for all your help and support at this difficult time. Rocky is off to his lovely new home tomorrow.

It's a friend of a friend so we are reassured that we "know" where he is going. It's makes it easier.

He is off to a horsey home and his new owner may be a member on here so I won't go into details.

We'll be able to stay in touch and look forward to hearing about him growing into the amazing dog we know he will be.

Off for a large glass of wine and a weep now.

Thanks again.

sounds to me like you have found the perfect home and more importantly put his needs before yours. Cant imagine how hard the decision must have been but it sounds like you will get regular updates and will be able to keep an eye on him.

ps He is absolutely gorgeous - If I was closer I would have been one of the first in line x

I was amazed at the distance people were willing to travel for him. He's staying in Kent. But we had interest from Somerset, Cambridgeshire and Hampshire.

I'm so glad he's going to someone who already knows him and a place he already knows. Wine will be poured as soon as he's gone - don't want to look like a lush to his new family by drinking already!

I haven't stopped with the tears all morning and bless him he is sitting giving me cuddles and licking the tears away.

Had our last walk this morning so we took him to his favourite place and played ball until our arms ached.

Must keep repeating "this is the right decision"...

Massive hugs to you your so brave looking through your photos i got a little upset in that i dont know what i would do if i ever had to give up one of my boys. Have you had to re home your other dog ( one in the photos when rocky was a pup ) really hope everything works out for you and you keep in touch with his new owners xxxxx

He went yesterday lunchtime. I stop bawling until I look where his bed should be etc and then I start again... :o

Here are some photos taken about an hour before he went:

Thanks again everyone for all your support, it has been much appreciated. I know I've done the right thing and that Rocky will thrive in his new home. He will be out at a yard all day with lots of mud to play in and people to make friends with - it will be Rocky heaven!

PS - Dingle, the other dog belongs to my in-laws.

oh he is lovely, look at that little face just before he went...of course you are upset but I'm sure you had the best reasons to re-home him and he will be fine.

I was very tempted myself as I'm in Kent but we wouldn't have been able to give him enough stimulation by the sound of it, so not the right home for him. although I was interested in your doggy daycare place - where is that? We are at work long hours 4 days a week so would probably need something like that.
