Rehoming charities and rudeness?

I agree there are some smaller 'charities' to avoid, but please don't be put off them all. The Society for the Welfare of Horses and Ponies (SWHP) near Monmouth, is one of many smaller charities that are 100% reputable and are part of the National Equine Welfare Council. If you look on NEWC website you will find information on many such charities, not just the big names. They all do a fantastic job and need our support .

I have a companion and a ridden pony from SWHP and can thoroughly recommend them. They have more horses than appear on their website so are well worth contacting.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Originally l was looking for a Welshie but there are so many out there l may be a bit more open to breed...

isn't the lady involved with this involved with the 'other' charity too?

I am actually a member of the group on facebook that is being discussed, I have rehomed one of their animals and live in Cambridgeshire. The lady being talked about has been trying to improve the welfare and conditions of animals owned by other people with their co-operation for many years, they rehome animals that have been signed over by the owners or have been impounded by the police, mine was wandering the roads. As with all these things there will be always someone that does not like the way you do things and at the moment she is being stalked by someone, the police have been informed and that is why she posted the post on Facebook.
Politeness costs nothing but if you keep asking, 'why don't you' when the person is well aware that the situation is not perfect but they are doing the best they can with limited resources sometimes you get a bit short. If any one would be interested in rehoming a pony please contact me and I will provide the information you need to start the process, but remember these people are volunteers and checking references and getting the ponies off the hill takes time and they have jobs and families. I hope this explains the some of the background.

l didn't do this - l don't see the relevance of mentioning it...

l am aware of the issue - they have put them on FB for all to see. The posts are quite unprofessional with a lot of swearing involved. A simple statement that the police had been notified would probably have sufficed.

Again - l wanted to rehome a pony from a charity rather and support them, rather than purchasing. l could purchase a 'cheap' horse rather than give a hefty donation but l would rather support a charity and offer a home to a horse who has had a bad start. l have tried with two charities so far and have been met with nothing but hostility. lt's a very peculiar situation... You'd think that charities would be desperate to move horses on to good homes so that they have the room to take in more?

I wasn't actually saying you were rude but trying explaining why they may sound rude. I think when someone has started invading your property and it has gone on for a long time you might get a bit mad, there are a lot worse things expressed on Facebook.
If you want to rehome the donation is the cost of castration for the colts and you organise your own transport, mine arrived as a colt so I did not donate anything for the pony. You are not buying them but covering the cost of he castration costs which is subsidised by the vets at I think £60, cheap by anyone's standards, my last one cost £120 to castrate. They do like the colts castrated before they leave as they do not want to perpetuate the problem. My pony was going to be PTS by the police as he was in the pound so he had to be moved quickly so that's why he arrived as a colt and he will be castrated next month.
I live not far from Wood Green and the last dog I had from there cost a £60 donation, often charities ask for a donation as they can claim back any tax you have paid.

Lol, so by their logic, they'd rather rehome to a numpty who has somehow managed to break in some horses?!

Sounds like you've had a lucky escape!

I again know a charity who do this. They gave a filly foal of unknown breeding to a girl who lives on a farm and has never been near a horse (shes a town girl who married a farmer)
