Has any one ever re-homed a horse?
I think its a nice idea to give a horse a second chance, although being on the small isle of man there are not many for re homing and those i know of are to small for me (i am 5'8ft and "well build")

so has any one taken of a horse be it from a rescue centre or straight from an owner who couldn't cope (please don't name the person if so as its not fair)

if so were from ?

how did it work out?

do you still have the horse?

I did about 25 years ago.
Took on a 16.2 3/4TB who has jumped & evented and then retired to breed but her foal had died in a ditch. Just left in a paddock, alone & given food, water & that's all. Not a cruelty case but no one to love her.
I was told she was 19, actually she was 21 and I had her for 5 brilliant years until her stifle started locking up & distressing her.

yes i took a horse on loan to 'save' it from going to the sales or a dealer when her then loaner no longer wanted her and her owner couldn't take her back due to illness and marriage problems. i was asked originally by the mares old sharer as she knew i had not long lost my TB and was starting to look for another horse, when i said yes she set the ball rolling between me and the owner. 6 months later she asked if she could gift the mare to me as her personal situation wasn't going to change for the better and she wanted to secure the mares future. I agreed and it will be 6 years this summer that the big grey moose has been with me.

i also had another one gifted to me about the same time but the reasons for that were completely different, he didn't need saving, he wasn't about to be made homeless and he was very much loved, his owner just felt i had the drive to break him in which she didn't have, he also has been with me ever since and this is he

I was very lucky and got given my lovely 16.2 10yr old at the time WB! He had colic surgery and was BSJA grade A but lost his sparkle after the surgery, couldn't get the stretch over the fences, so they didn't want him anymore! Needless to say I snapped him up and gave him a home! He's 22 now, retired, and happy as Larry living out his days with me

Its nice to here some happy stories of horses finding some good homes

all i never seem to see is sad ones

i no not every one gives up a horse for a bad reason but its nice to see that things are good for the horse

I rehomed a 19 year old companion mare from World Horse Welfare 8 years ago. She's an absolute superstar and I wouldn't be without her. She hadn't been a poor welfare case and was even a little fat when she came to us. She has a home for life with us.

Thank you. I am thrilled with him, he is in great shape now. I have only been riding since 2008 so had a steep learning curve with him. He is full of character and has a wicked buck when excited so I have developed a good seat! We are off to our first endurance of the season next week and looking forward to a fantastic summer.
