I was Reiki attuned about 6 years ago with a view to completing my training and treating horses (mine initially). Due to ill health over the past few years I have only just decided to start my training back up again. Do I need to find a Reiki Master who treats horses or will I be ok having training from a person who treats people? How easy is it to adapt Reiki from humans to horses as I don't want to be wasting my time and money training to use Reiki on people if this can't be used on horses. I am in the Huddersfield area if anyone knows someone local who could offer training.

IMO a person that trains for people will be fine - treating animals is no different - the reiki will go where it needs to be - I focus more on animals with my Reiki and my Reiki master just found me some information about suggested hand positions for horses. When it comes down to it, every person will find their own way to give reiki, after their initial training, and using your intuition is most important.

reiki is reiki - there is no difference whether it is used on animals or people the energy is the same.

i think it would be different on horses than people, i have a go on horses and found it very facinating, the only person i know of is a man called jim and i want to say his second name is matterson! il have a look for you.

Which one have you done? Just the first one?? Once you done the first one it's there for life. Do you a treatment yourself too?? It would be a good idea if you can as it will help you with your health problems etc. Yes you do need to find a Reiki Master it doenst matter as you can even do a treatment on a plant so any Reiki Master will do.

With every attunment it's different and the experince on each is different too.

Please rem it's there for healing other's not just for the money side as there are other ways a exchange can be given.

Im not sure where in your area you could find one have a look in Sprilit & Disteny mag on the back page of mag have some course's.

Good luck with it and I do hope you start to use it more.

I did up to master teacher on humans but never use it on people (other than family). I have only ever really used it to treat animals and I have never charged for it because I personally didn't feel I could justify it (that doesn't mean I disagree with people who do). I don't bother with fixed hand positions as they are not really needed and were more about making a human treatment seem more structured that actually doing anything special. I tend to start around wither or low neck area and then move where I feel the need to when the horse starts to relax, I get a sort of 'itching' in my palm that 'tells' me which direction to move my hand. I paid a fortune for mine but you can get free attunements online and they DO work, I have a niece that did up to level 3 and her Reiki was just the same as mine if not more 'powerful' - she never paid a penny. Do you need to take the higher levels, it doesn't make any difference to the quality/power of Reiki that you give, it would just mean you couldn't do distance or attune others if you stuck with the level 1.

Thanks everyone for replies so far. I have had Reiki healing myself and it certainly helped with my back probs. I have only had the initial training which included being attuned and the Reiki Master who trained me did say that I'd know when the time was right to go back to it. Now that I'm feeling stronger both mentally and physically I feel the time is right for me to pursue this again. Should I start to work on my own horses now and see how they receive the Reiki?

Im glad it's helping on your back and yes do do it on your horse more prctis the better. As you said you had healing done on yourself is this by you or someone else? It would be good for you to do a treatment on yourself before bed with a good mediatin cd on it works well for me.

As you already done the first one please do rember the principles of Reiki and The story of Dr.Usui as this is very importat. Also pleas dont go for the weekend one when you can do the other's in that time it's no good as you need time to adjust to it all. Online attunments I've never had of this till now and I do not recomber it as it's a bit like having a fridge without a pug!!! And not for free either as that's not respect the principles of Reiki.

I have seen students who had came for attunnments for all the wrong reason's. Eveyone have got a sixth sense. Just because one student is able to see spirit and talk to them doesnt mean evey one will. Your skills and gifts will be differently from any one else.

Seeing whats gone on in a horse's pastd isnt very nice even worse when it's a bad experince. I wish you all the best in the future. And when the day comes to you doing it and finding the one to take you though it you will know.

totally agree with seraphin, it doesn't matter what living thing is the recipient. you do not need extra training to do animals or a master who treats animals. With horses i always start with the withers and neck, i just go with where it feel right. You could maybe find someone who does it with horses down your way and go with them to a few clients to see how they go about it. I never did though and never had a problem.
I would start practicing with your horses and friends, also do some self healing. The more you do, the stronger and more confident you will become.

I would advise against all these long weekend expensive courses, i think a lot of them pad it out to justify the fee. I also believe that you need a gap between levels to adjust and further your learning.
good luck with it.

I would recommend a seperate animal/equine course. I did level 1 & 2 on two day weekends, first day human second horse/small animal, and it really was worth doing the second day, IMO. Is Nantwich in Cheshire commutable for you? you'd be elligible to do the second day without the first if you are already attunded. This is who I studied with and highly recommend:

I was attuned and got my Level 1 in May 2003 so it's quite a while ago. Have spoken to a Reiki Master who is local to me and she has suggested a half day refresher seeing as I haven't used Reiki for some time. By sound of things I'll need to start using it then on myself, family and my animals before thinking about Level 2. Thanks to all who have taken the time to offer advice.
