Help!
3 weeks to go and still not mastered rein back!
I can now do it just on the right rein but left she swings her quarters out. Ive tried using poles but once you take them away she is the same again.
Any ideas or suggestions to help improve rein back and stop her panicing??
Thanks in advance!

what aids are you giving? i was taught to teach (esp mares!) to rein back 99% from both legs sliding back, that is the aid, not really to use the reins at all, as it upsets them. have someone on the floor to stop her walking forward the first few times if you can, so you don't have to block her with your hands, and just slide both legs lightly back quite far, while using your voice.
also, are you sure you have your weight absolutely even in both seatbones, and are sitting absolutely in the centre, because she may be trying to shift under your weight. sorry, not meant to be an insult!
on the left rein i'd ask and be happy with just one single straight step back, walk on, praise a lot. gradually build it up.
hope that helps.

Hmm well ive been riding it with a light seat slightly leaning forward.
Legs sliding back not an option as she shoots off forwards if you move your legs too much-was beaten badly in the past and 7 years on still will freak out.
She goes back its just crooked and at 90 miles an hour.
