iv just had some lovely people out to view my gelding and he went ok but started snatching the reins! he has never done this before, might of been because of the flies, but i was abit dissapointed that he didnt ride amazing like he normally does. The people are coming back out with their trainer so finers crossed she likes him! how can i stop him snatching the reins?

If he's never done it before I would be enclined to think their riding, or his teeth need a look at?
Did you get on and see if he did the same with you?
That or he was just having an off day!

if he doesnt normally do it id also be inclined to think it may be their riding. is he quite sensitive in the mouth? if so maybe they were being too strong with their hands or holding on his mouth slightly? if they are coming back with their trainer hopefully the trainer may pick up on what they are doing and tell them.

My boy started snatching his reins this time last year, and then stopped and has started again in the last couple of weeks. I have sorted the issue with a nose net as it was the little flying insects that were swarming round particular areas of the arena or wooded areas out on hacks. It has made a HUGE difference.

If it is on one rein he could be uncomfortable with you asking him to work and therefore snatches the rein to let him have his head a bit
