Im borrowing a friends pelham for my local show this weekend and im going to get some reins in a bit, what type do that have to be, plated, plain etc????

Thanks
Steph

it depends how big your hands are, really! if not very big, don't get two fat pairs of reins. i tend to use one pair of medium width rubber-covered on the snaffle rein, and then a thin pair of event reins, which feel totally different, on the curb rein.
if you are going to be using it in all weathers, you do need non-slip for both pairs really, plain reins are lethally slippery in the wet.
can't you borrow her reins along with the bit? sounds like a lot of outlay when your horse might not like the pelham!

The curb rein tends to be about 1/2" in width and the snaffle one is about an inch. If you are showing go for plain reins or if you think it is going to be wet, go for a pair with rubber on the inside.

I have tried her in a double and she was fine but I think the pelham maybe better for her as she doesnt have the biggest of mouth's and my instructor said that she has a fat tongue

so she may go better in a pelham. Well concidering the weather at the moment

I will probably go with rubber on the inside!!

In that case then, def a Pelham for a horse with a fat tongue.

Very wise going for reins with rubber on the inside considering the weather.

Good luck and enjoy. Would love to see some piccies!
