There's a bit of a debate in my house at the moment over what reins to buy. Daughter likes bobbly rubber, I like plain. So now I'm just wondering what reins everyone else likes to ride in. :)

Eek! How do I add a poll to this thing? Lol!

You could compromise and buy the ones that are plain on the outside and rubber on the inside. They look great but you have the advantage of the rubber grip.

Depends on the horse. In the days of being a hunt/PTP groom I was definitely a rubber rein person, riding out in all weather on poorly schooled horses.

On my own either half rubber or good web.

I love laced reins myself :D

agree.

although some of the lacing does sometimes break in places that get a lot of wear over a few years hard use.
still think these look the smartest though.

i once bought a very expensive and smart pair of reins for a livery client that had rubber on one side only.
Crikey, did these look a mess very soon with bits of thread that sewed the rubbering on, coming lose left right an center.
Looked a very messy, hairy pair of reins and the last time id buy leather reins with 1 side rubberised.

rubber reins or continental reins... cant stand laced ones(i dont wear gloves..that might be why) or if im riding a horse with a double bridle on i like the snaffle rein with the rubber on the inside leather on the outside and then just a plain leather curb rein :)

I generally just use bog standard bobbly cheapie rubber reins. I used to have some dressage half rubber reins, and I do have some smooth rubber reins in the tack room - but I have very long fingers, and find I just end up with tight fists with a lot of reins as they're just too narrow. I really need a good chunk of rein so that my fingers don't end up doing plaiting!!

i've used laced reins, rubber reins and continental reins with my horse and continental reins are defiantly my favourite :) they have have the grip of rubber reins but they feel nicer to hold :)

I love my dressage reins with the inside rubber grip - never had any problems with them in any weather. However my friend who often rides for me and does the faster/jumping bits hates anything but full rubber reins - to the point where she once brought her own reins rather than using my plaited or dressage ones! I found some lovely rubber ones on ebay and have to admit I do quite like them for hacking etc - still nice and soft but a little bit more to hold onto without being too bulky...

Laced for flat work and I have some rubber with very small pimples on for jumping as they are easier to slip if needs be. I dont like continental with the leather strips round them as I had a chunk of my finger removed when one particuar little darling decided to stick its head between its knees and bronk, find half rubber tend to fall apart but I like plain but they dont suit my horse at the moment.

I find the standard bobbley rubber reins far to bulky for me use properly as I have small hands therefore short fingers (am 5ft tall or short whichever:rolleyes:) Maybe you need to check out which type of rein FEELS better in the hand.

I love the rubber reins that are on the nylon - they are thinner than the leather ones, last a lot longer and are tough.

They are about the only reins that offer good grip when out hunting or fast working a sweaty horse.

Continental or the half rubber reins - always used continental but bought my new boy a gfs bridle that came with the half lined reins so thought I'd give them a go and they're pretty good! I have long fingers and big hands and cannot stand the big fat rubber reins - they just aren't flexible enough!

I don't like the thickness or bulk of the normal rubber reins, but plain leather are awful in wet weather, as they turn too slippery.

I like riding in laced reins - but HATE cleaning them.
My favourite reins are the eventers reins, which are rubber, but much slimmer and more flexible that normal rubber reins, and I also like my dressage reins, with pimple rubber on one side, and plain leather on the other.
