Reins to prevent slipping

Hi all,

My riding instructor has told me that she thinks that a rein has been bought out with loops on it that you slip one of your fingers through which prevents the rein from slipping between your fingers which for some reason ALWAYS seems to manage to happen to me no matter what I do

Has anyone heard of this miracle set of reins? Or if not, any other bright ideas to stop this happening, tried all the usual ie. gloves, super rubber reins and cushioned ones too ... these loop ones seem the answer.. if they exist!

To tell you the truth I would have thought a rein that you slip your finger through may be a very dangerous idea!
It might be worth you trying reins that have stops along them i.e. continental webbing reins. They should help with you letting the rein slip through your fingers. If you do go for some just make sure you don't get them too wide for you finger size. I use these all the time but I have the pure leather kind but they are more expensive.

I must admit I did think that they could be more of a hinderance!! I am a very very light handed rider though, so thought I would give them a go. I presume it would only be the very top of the ring finger in the loop and the loops are pretty big ... found them now .. they are made by Boiz !!! will give them a go and give you all an update !
 
Have you tried the fine rubbery grip ones with the little notches in? its vitually impossible for your hands to slide on those...unless wet or sweaty hands etc there great for keep the hands even and making sure you keep the correct length (if that is what the problem is), what reins are you currently using?

I've currently got a fine very soft rubbery pair. The rubber is almost like neoprene. Can't remember who made them, just that they were very expensive. (as with most things !!) They always seem to have a mind of their own eventually though and I end up with them having slipped through a few inches and contact dropped. I've tried the normal rubber/leather combination. The ones you mentioned sound far better ... any idea who made them?
 
Ernest Dillon has some reins out, if you google him they're not dissimilar to the Carol Mailer ones. Yes they do work IMO. I bought some a few years ago. Did get some funny looks at comps tho. everyone asking what are those. The only thing was that I tended to slip my reins jumping on the way down so didnt really work for me jumping. But I def think they helped with the contact.

They cost about £40.00 that was a couple of years ago. I used to be able to get my horse on a contact and in an outline with them reins. Cant remember why I changed back to ordinary reins.
