Funny question but how do you hold your reins?
This may sound really stupid and probably has a sensible answer, i am the queen of numptiness

I've seen some people hold them vertically like thumbs on top and upright like thumbs up, an dsome people seem to hold them horizontally like thumbs in the middle (but on top of reins still, sorry confusing) is this just with the hans moving with the horse or what?

Tah, please excuse the numptiness

Oh and how do you hold both reins in one hand do you hold them both the same way but on top of each other?

It is correct to hold the thumbs on top. It is a common fault for people to be lazy and allow their thumbs to drop down which breaks the straight line from elbow to rein

Always thumbs on top. I think what you are refering to is a rider fault called "pram pushing" very bad and would get screamed at by any PC instructor in the land! I think the main idea is that when you graduate to 4 reins it is very har to do with hands sidewise

Thats alright then, thats what i thought, hands like vertical thumbs on top but i just saw a lot of 'pram pushing' basically hands sort of sideways recently and thought i might be doing ti wrong lol

aww thats quite a cool coincedence(sp) i didnt name him hes a real sweetie hes 9 years old though so no spooky goings on i dont think lol.

I hold my reins with hands on a natural position. Not thumbs up, not horizontally. Just natural and comfortable.
I questioned myself about this and, searched the net.

Natural and comfortable, like in the middle of thumbs up and horizontal.

If you ride with both reins in one hand you ride like a cowboy

therefore anything goes! I find for stearing I hold my hand horizontally put the right rein throught the right hand as normal then the left rein through the right hand between the ring and middle finger. You can then rein on the horse's neck to an extent, not sure if this is how the western riders hold their reins but you can never really trust those cowboys
