Whilst doing some hill work, noticed that I need to replace my rubber reins as rubber has worn through. These reins were used daily however they have only lasted a year - I think they were calendene ones but can't remember.

What reins would you recommend? I need ones with some rubber, but don't mind if they are half or full. Would be used for eventing and stressage. Haven't a huge budget would rather have quality over cheap!
 
I just bought some Harry dabbs Platinum events reins (nylon core) with a new bridle slightly trepadatiously as I find normal type rubber reins in 5/8 inch wide too chunky, however these are really flexible and fab! Will be buying another pair for my other horse for the coming event season :). They are just under £77 at thermatex.co.uk
 
I had some lovely Jeffries Bio Grip Reins until my horse snapped them :rolleyes: now i have some old John Whitaker ones which aren't bad, they are quite good but i personally prefer something a bit more supple. I also have some Schokemohle rubber ones which are very nice. I know a few people who have the Dy'on ones and they are lovely!

They have a more expensive version for £85 (http://www.sederholmselected.co.uk/product_p/db23.htm) but personally I don't see any difference apart from price in these, at a much better price at £35

I have jefferies Bio Grip ones which I really like, the only irritating thing is because they are so thin the extra bit often gets stuck down in front of my saddle. Also, when they are soaking wet/covered in sweat be careful what gloves you ride in! I had zero control out hunting as I just couldn't get any grip on them!
 
I love the "Eventa" reins - same grips used by most of the possible brands so you can spend as much or as little as you want. I've had Sabre but now have Harry Dabbs Jaguar (got these as they already have leather rein stops on and they have double leather around the bit rings so hopefully quite hardwearing). They aren't quite as bulky in the hand as traditional rubber grip reins, nor are they as slippery/jelly-like as the Bio grip reins. My sabre set lasted me for 3 years before the grips wore fairly smooth (and then I just kept them for schooling rather than fast work, until horse kindly snapped them by standing on them).
 
Jeffries do some cheaper rubber reins which have nylon down the core, they're about 30quid, I've had mine for a couple of years and they're still goog strong, and aren't quite as jelly like as the biogrips!
 
Well I have several pairs of the cheap ones from feed shops as well Woody likes to stand and snap them and Baby Barry, well everything goes in his mouth!!!

However, Flynn has Jaguar ones which I love and I'm about to get the Dy'on pair (£35) so will let you know if they are as good as I hope they are!
