Has any one heard of horses rejecting thier micro chip? my horse had one about a month ago he has now developed a hard lump in that area that is not sore or hot it only came up wednesday?

Yes, we had 2 ponies who were microchipped at the same time, Emma's was absolutley fine but Tias, after a few days came up into a lump, then a few days after that, the lump - which turned out to be an abcess - exploded and i found her in the field with puss all over her neck. She had to go into surgery to have the chip removed.
it turned out that the vet had put them chip through the highway ligament in the horses neck.
Sorry to say the worst, but i really would get the vet out from past experience.

ooo thanks i will the only reason why i have just been keeoing an eye on it is because it was a month ago and not sore at all and he is a wimp and its not hot but ill def get the vet did u have to pay even though it was vet fault?

I think the liveryfor her stay at the vets was refunded, but yes we had to pay for the surgery to remove the chip and were charged for the chip which she no longer had!

It took quite a while for her to recouperate and she still had a scar till the day we sold her.

If the chips are sterile and inserted somewhere suitable just under the skin you should have no problems.

If you think about it, compared to say something like breast implants this is a tiny foreign body and problems are relatively rare.

Always worth making sure the vet wipes the skin with surgical spirit so that chipping gun doesn't bring bacteria with it.
