Hi
we have a well drained 20 x 40 sand/rubber school, unfortunately its amazing draining properties also mean it dries out rapidly. THis means the surface becomes very deep, cause it to shift and therefore rides closer to the liner.

We have looked at a lot of products and we are trying to make the new surface retain moisture and require less grading/harrowing. Has anybody used flexiride in similar circumstances? Would like to know if it prevents the problem, how much watering is required etc. Just a bit worried we will spend a lot of money and have a deep, shifting surface, with something on top!

ANy feedback or advice would be great
Thanks

Mm. i have access to an arena which is sand/flexi ride and it rides very deep unless watered. have you tried watering your current surface? I think the very dry weather has had an impact.

More likely than over drainage is the wrong kind of sand, normal sand is round so it stacks up like a big pile of tennis balls. The right kind of sand for a school is square/ oblong so stacks up like bricks in a wall and doesn't move around when the horses move over the top of it.

You can mix all the water / fiber etc you like into a pile of tennis balls but it'll still move about with weight on the top.

Spend a little money getting the sand tested and they you'll know what you are dealing with

I agree that you need to try watering it regularly, especially during the summer months. A lot of sand based surfaces need watering regularly in dry weather. x

we have carpet fibre from Equestrian Surfaces, Burnley. we live in a very dry part of the country and find it keeps water in well, stops the sand from blowing away. Even after three months of dry weather the top inch is dry the underneath is still wet. It doesn't move away on the turns like rubber and rides like old turf. Don't know about adding to an existing rubber surface 9 ours is sand and carpet) but they could advise.

I have had a flexiride surface on my exisiting sand arena and havent looked back since! I can ride in this 365 days a year and has proved exceptional during the winter months while all my friends have been complaining about there arenas been frozen the flexiride hasn't stopped me! I would definelty recommend this to anyone
