Anybody used it for clipping? I will be asking my Vet anyway before using it, but I have some left over from when my boy was on box rest last year so will use that if I can. Or if needs be I’ll try with Domesdan.

I used to get him sedated by the Vet and fully clip him but we have managed pretty much an Irish clip just with dog clips with no sedation but am considering turning this into a blanket clip but there’s no way I am going round his back end without sedation..! ?

I used Sedalin (which I think is a similar drug, different name) to clip Bear last week. Last winter he was sedated by the vet but sweated profusely so we decided to try oral sedation. I used 3ml, left him for 44 minutes and then clipped him. Worked brilliantly, I’d definitely use it again.

Yes, I used it on my previous horse when he was having his legs clipped due to dermatitis. He was the most gentle, calm soul but had only been clipped once before in his life and the scabs on his legs could have been difficult for him so he got 2ml and was very calm throughout.

Your vet can advise on the appropriate dose for your horse. It takes between 45mins and an hour to take effect but then seems to keep them calm for a good few hours after. It's like diazepam in that it only helps them relax but if they're terrified, they can fight it.

Thanks - my boy is not scared just ticklish. I’ve worked really hard with him to get him to where he is now but I think it will be safer for me and nicer for him if he is sedated just for whilst I do his back end.
