Does anybody else have real problems with reliability and trusting specialists in the horse world? As I mentioned in my previous post about Flash, we have real problems with farriers, we had a very unrelaiable farrier who I didn't like at all, and when he wouldn't come out for 3 weeks after missing his appointment even tho Flash had lost 2 shoes, I looked for another farrier. I phoned every single one that covered our area and all were fully booked and unable to take us on, even one at the stables joining on to ours wouldn't even look at my horse. We eventually found a farrier, but seem to have had everything going against us.

We've also had the back person fail to turn up with no notification, and when we phoned they said he was on the way, but he never showed, and they didn't answer our calls or return messages.

It's also taken 3 recommended vets before we found one that I feel I can trust.

Does anyone else have these problems? I almost feel like we've been blacklisted or something because we have so many problems, although I can't think why as we always pay on time, are always there waiting and stay with the horses, and have been so polite and patient!

it is just the way some people are, rude and idle, if they don't turn up and don't let you know. that's why we're all desperate to go on recommendation, i think... my problem is with trusting that the "expert" who i am paying (usually handsomely) to do a good job on my trusting steed, is actually doing a good job.
i'm not a farrier, so i shouldn't have to stand over one and nag him to make sure he takes the toes back enough and doesn't let the heels collapse. ditto equine dentists... once you discover the difference between the ones that take 15 mins and assure you your horse's mouth is now perfect for a year, and the ones that take 40 minutes and SHOW you that it is. and back people... finally got one i really really trust and KNOW is doing a great job. won't let anyone else touch them! used the same vet's practice for over 20 years so i know they're great, but i'll still have a little word if one of the juniors isn't quite as i'd like. since the bills are enormous, i reckon i'm allowed.

word of mouth is where it's at. surely you can get recommendations from other local horsey people? i'd give up on the no-shows, personally. useless rude gits.

Generally I go on word of mouth too, but people who have been recommended as being very good and reliable somehow often don't prove to be for me

Without wishing to case any offence - do other people at the yard have similar problems? I only ask because I contacted a well known physio and had almost finalised a visit wh I told him the address, he was very apologetic but said the the yo and he 'were not in agreement' and that he's happily see my horse if I took him to the physio! Professionsal are as entitled as the rest of us to avoid hassle I guess!
