hi,

i'm relocating to Corby in the next few months. I'm looking for as much info as possible.

I have two horses and am looking for DIY or assisted Livery, must have all year turn out and an arena. would love to find a yard with good acess to hacking and that there are friendly people to hack with.

also would love a heads up on wear to get your feed and such like.

thanks for your help and kindest regards xx

Hello,

How far are you willing to travel each day? I'm at a DIY yard on the outskirts of Rothwell, there are no spaces at the moment for DIY, but some people have mentioned that they're thinking of moving somewhere a bit more local to them so there may be some spaces by the time you come to move.

Otherwise, look at www.wellandvalleyfeeds.co.uk and www.northantshorsetrader.co.uk, there may be something suitable on there. if not, then Horse Wear House in Kibworth always has lots of adverts, so it might be worth going over to have a look at them.

Good luck! :)

hi,

thank you for your replies.

i'm moving to Corby itself near Asda.:o i really dont know the area and will be going up in the next week or so and will hopefully do a bit of a horsey recci as my OH shows me the town.

I will definatley ring round and check out yards as i my horses have moved a lot in the past year and my mare stresses so would like to find the right place as the last thing i want on top of moving in with OH IS ADDED HORSEY DRAMAS :p

Agree with slinkyunicorn! Perhaps look round Oakham and Uppingham area, the hacking round there is lovely, and it's quite a 'horsey' area, and wouldn't be too far for you to travel

Also agree with fizzer, I used to have a share horse liveried at Harringworth Manor Stables. The yard itself isn't brilliant, but might be worth a look? www.harringworthmanorstables.com

Not many yards around Uppingham:( Oakham is probably to far for daily commuting if you have already got a house in Corby:o Gretton, Rockingham and Medbourne are the closest villages to Corby - there is definitely a yard in Medbourne:)

Harringworth is lovely - I have ridden from there years ago:o my parents used to live in the next village - the best thing about Harringworth and the Corby side is that if you have transport you can get to Wakerley Woods to ride which is brilliant!:) Is Forestry Commission so you need a permit but its worth it:) Although I have to say years ago we used to ride up there and sneak in but we knew where we were going:o

If you have transport there is a lot that goes on in Rutland/Oakham part of the world or you if you compete there is Moulton College not too far the other way.:)

There are also a couple of yards in Ashley which isn't far away and there is a smashing yard at East Carlton.

I know of 3 yards in Medbourne, 1 of which is the old racing yard that has been taken over that is advertising vacancies. Also Medbourne Grange do livery. Another lady is Gail but not sure if she is still taking liveries. (She breeds morgans).

Do you have to live in Corby?! It wouldn't be my first choice of place to live in the area - when I worked for Northants County Council we weren't allowed to go there alone, had to be in pairs!!

There are a couple of nice yards and a big feed place in Market Harborough otherwise try Harringworth Stables (great hacking) or there is a yard in Brigstock/Sudborough.

It's been a few years since i was in that area so i can't remember names, sorry.

You need to look around the Weldon area if your near ASDA or on the main road to Peterborough.

Corby isn't a very horsey place at all and you might struggle to get a nice yard/if any yards in the immediate area.

Corby can be very rough in places but it also has it's ok spots (like most towns) and now they have their rail link up and running it's only a hour and half in to London!! I know 3 people who now live in Corby and commute as the house prices are obviously cheaper than London. The town center has been revamped with loads of big named shops now open, it has amazing leisure facilities at the new pool complex and it's only 30 miles away from Peterborough, Leicester and Northampton if you fancy a bit of city life.
However there are a couple of pubs i wouldn't go in unless i was tooled up!!!

it's noted that its not the most horsey area. i currntly live in a not very horsey area now, so already am used to comute of up to 25miles each way. just trying to see whats out there and hopefully find somewhere that will be a little closer when i do move.
thanks for the added info :)
