Hubby works in Gloucester during the week and comes back home to Devon t weekends. Basically, we're both fed up of this after 10 years and will be relocating next year so he can come home each night.

What i would like to try and find out is, what areas do people have recommendations for within commuting distance of gloucester. I have 2 children, one is 17, the other 5 so don't want to be overly rural. We would idealy live on the edge of a village with a pub, primary school and shop.

We would be able to buy property with land, but i really enjoy the social aspect of a yard, so ideally recommendations for these too (and ones to avoid!)

Basically, i have no idea of the areas at all, hubby says tgat its very very horsey but i would like to hear from all you gloucester peeps please.

:)

We're just outside Tetbury, and it's lovely. I grew up nearer to Cheltenham, and although it's a more beautiful area of the Cotswolds, the commute is slightly longer to Gloucester.

If you decide on an area, pm me and I'll give you a list of yards to avoid and yards that are lovely!

The commute from Tewesbury is pretty easy :) Stonehouse/Stroud areas are nice too but not sure what house prices are like there. Lots of yards in both areas :)

I am at uni in Gloucester. I live in the city itself by pony lives just after Hartpury village, near Corse.

Gloucester is a bit of a 'weird' city (no offence!!) and Cheltenham is much nicer but I haven't had any trouble in the 3 years living here. Horsey side is great, obviously have Hartpury and Summerhouse etc for big competitions and there are various XC courses etc. Hunting is a big thing too. Pony is on a lovely quiet livery yard with a mixture of students and older liveries. Hacking isn't fantastic where I am but there are a couple of bridleways - lots of lanes/road work. Outdoor arena, lunge pen, all year turnout and solarium with equissage machine.

At the moment, however, everywhere is flooded :(

Can't really help but wanted to say lucky, lucky you! My sister lives in a lovely chocolate box village 5mins drive from Gloucster city centre. Real old fashioned friendly village with horses everywhere, some livery yards, every farm does livery plus the odd person like her neighbour who keeps several in the (large) garden. I've stayed there with my horse and hacking is just brillent. Sister can afford it as her house is next to the M5 but you don't notice it and the under bridge makes perfect parking in the winter. If I found work there I'd move in like a shot - not sure though if brother-in-law would approve!
