Hi All,

I'm hoping there might be people in this area who can share with me some grains of wisdom about living/keeping horses in the Cardigan area of Wales?! I've just been offered a new job near Llandysul and am now in the process of thinking about where I'm going to live and what I'm going to do with my horse! If anyone lives around there or is from there with any advice on where to go or where not to go I'd really appreciate it. Hopefully some of my new colleauges are going to get in touch with me as I gather it's a horsey place, but I'm just trying to get my head around it all.

Thanks! :)

yep, that's me ... about 12 miles from Cardigan and 8 from Llandysul. Yes it's very horsey with lots to do and places to ride. What would you like to know exactly ?

Thanks guys,

I'll be looking for a livery yard so that would be a good place to start! Also vet/farrier/dentist recommendations in the area? Other than that, what are the best beaches/trails for having a day out on? And maybe venues that run nice unaff competitions that would be nice for a baby horse and a newbie to the area?

Ohhh, and last but not least a good instuctor? :)

I'm currently in Aberystwyth, prob too far away to recommend livery yards but pm me if you want details of some!

Celaeron ec in Aberaeron is good for unaffiliated and some affiliated stuff, mainly dressage and showjumping but the odd ODE/hunter trial too.

Ynyslas beach just past borth is nice for riding on, thats where i take my boy to. I'd also recommend my farrier but i dont know how far he travels, possibly comes your way.

like i said pm me if you want any more info :)

we're south of Cardigan, the best thing you can do for preparation of your move (especially at the moment.....!) is by a snorkel and grow webbed feet.....
:D:D:D
Farrier:Grant Lewis,
Dentist: Charles Morgan or Justin Pugh

Hello from another West Waleian!!
I'm about 8 miles from LLandysul &.....12 from Cardigan....Rhandir i wonder if your anywhere near me??
Farrier....Tomos Davies...hes brilliant, cant recommend him highly enough, a total God as far as I'm concerned lol!! (can you tell that i like him?) He also apprenticed with Grant Lewis who cuppatea suggested.
Vets...each to their own really, Tysul in Llandysul are ok as are Castle House in Newcastle Emlyn (though i cant stand Angus!) & Priory in Cardigan aren't bad either. There is also Cotts in Narbeth who are very good.
Lots of OK livery yards around, though you will find lots of places are more private yards who just take on one or 2 liveries (which i think is nicer than being stuck on a huge yard). You want to consider the riding as well when you look for a livery yard as well, as some areas are better than others. Rhydlewis/Brongest/Coedybryn/Maesllyn/Tregroes/Beulah all have really good hacking. I wouldn't consider somewhere in the Saron/Rhos area as the riding is pretty dismal, as is the riding round Llandysul (i kept my horse there for a couple of years & had to hack miles to get to a decent bridle path). I do believe Llechryd & Llandygwydd are good hacking as well!
Hope all the helps...sorry for getting carried away :)

Another one for Tysul Vets, farrier Daniel Thomas, dentist Andre Majerski. Lloyds Feeds in Cross Inn are excellent, they also do free delivery.

navaho .... have PM'd you

Wow - thanks all, you're a mine of information!
Thanks for the advice on the riding out, I don't have transport so it's pretty vital I can access a couple of routes from the yard. I wouldn't mind a medium sized yard as it's nice to ride out with others. :)
