Remedial Shoeing for Flat Feet - How long should they be used for?

My friends horse had to have heart bar shoes on and was on them for 1½ years to try to build his feet up. But how long really should a horse be shod in heart bars for?

Am I right in thinking that he shouldn't have been in them for that length of time?

Arch and Max have heart bar shoes on and they will prob always have them.

I have a mare in them that has been for 9 months now and is likely to stay in them till mid next year. I think it's ok so long as the feet are reviewed regularly and they're shod correctly.

i got told that you shouldn't put heart bars on flat fotted horse because it crushes the frog as there are already close to the ground. thats only what i was told though

my horse was in wedges for 7 months, the farrier and I didnt rate them as his heels were compacting. has been barefoot now for the same amount of time and his feet are fab. i think there is only so much we can do to re model our horses, they do the most themselves

Heart bar shoes on a flat foot horses a pretty standard, Extra contact with a hard surface that the frog is receiving will be generating more blood flow to the hoof.

Heat bars, egg bars, straight bars can really be used for any length of time as long the the hooves are trimmed regularly.
