Well, I'm asking again, deadly seriously, if anyone can give me contact details for reputable dealers in the South (PM me if you'd rather). I have advertised my mare all over the place and apart from one complete timewaster, I have had no replies whatsoever and personal developments over the past week mean that she simply has to go. I am getting really desperate now and am seriously starting to consider the meat route!

What about loaning until she can be sold?

I remember you posting about not having luck weeks ago. I am not a fan of loaning at all, but if it is dire she go to a new home it may be the best short term option for now?

good luck...not a fun time of year to be selling

It's such a shame as she is lovely mare too, a real opportunity for someone. Her only problem is that as forester doesn't do riding she hasn't been ridden for a year as she has bred a foal. I just can't understand why no interest when you hear of all these poeple who buy horror stories ands here is a genuine but rather green 6 year old that nobody wants.

Sadly, loaning has been a non-starter too thus far and not had any joy in response to advertising just for a rider (apart from one utterly useless twat (can I say that on here) who was amazed that : a) the mare doesn't kick, and b) that horses in a field have to be checked EVERY day! She nearly fell over when I said that I actually check them twice a day . . . . .!! Hmm . . . . . I've replied to umpteen "wanted" ads only one of whom had the courtesy to reply but, sadly, although the mare was exactly what she was looking for, she is in North Yorkshire and I'm as far South as you can get without getting wet, she wasn't prepared to travel that far to see her . . . . . I'm beginning to wonder of there's a plot against me!!!

Have you lowered the price? If you are really considering meat, then anything over meat money is a bonus I guess and I'm sure you could find somebody to take her on for £800/£1000.

Failing that, although I don't know any dealers myself, I am sure one would take her on for a cheap price.

I actually removed the price altogether to see if I would get any interest but only one timewaster with no money. I paid £2k for her as a green 5 year old who came with nothing except one old turn-out rug. I am now selling her as green 6 year old, proven brood mare, complete with two turn-out rugs and a brand new stable rug that's been used about 3 times (all new last winter), full set of tack (everything except the saddle is brand spanking new - numnah actually still in sealed polythene bag) and was asking £2500. She's a bargain for someone to go and have some fun with; schooled on and doing things I reckon she'd be worth £4k. I've been lungeing and long-reining her and she's been ridden round the field a few times and she's been an absolute star. The foal's been hurtling around being silly and she's never turned a hair. The foal's going off to be weaned next weekend so she's available from then . . . .

Didn't see the link!! Doh! She looks lovely. Will tell my client, but not sure she'll go for an ango-arab, she is had in mind an ISH to event. But difficult finding things within price range....

Have you tried putting her on the NFED?

Yes, I'd be quite happy to see her do as well as him (and he won the 3 year old PB showing class at Malvern before he started eventing)

It's like people who say they wouldn't have a grey . . . . turn down Milton or Desert Orchid, would you?

TBH, at 2500 that's a lot for something thats not done a lot? IMHO only. I would be thinking 1200 even if she will be worth it, at the moment she isn't espec. not fit.

Blimey, I paid £2k for her last spring (and thought that was pretty good for a horse of her breeding and quality) as a green 5 year old that had done nothing except hack out, I certainly wouldn't take less now she's a proven broodmare too. I was discussing horse prices today with a friend and I recollected that I was interested in buying a horse in 1988 (i.e almost 20 years ago) that was just a "happy hacker" and she was £1000 then. 19 years on that £1000 would have gone up 3-4 times just to keep up with the rising cost of living.

Given that people are prepared to py more than that to 'rescue' a horse from France, certainly by the time transport is added, perhaps you should put her on there

If you do have a vid, I might be interested too. Im looking for a project for dressage whilst my other horse is off work.

Have looked for sharing, loaning, cheap buy but no luck yet.

But surely you would,. rather than sell for meat money which is much less??

I think the price is reasonable, but its not a good time of year to be selling. I also think removing the price would reduce interest as people like to see immediately if shes in their budget.

I think your best bet if you want a quick sale is to drop the price to £1800 and be prepared to take offers. At the end of the day, a horse is only worth what someone is willing to pay, and if people aren't biting for £2500 then that says to me you need to drop the price.

Either that, or after the foal is weaned you could get her properly back in work and schooling well, she'd probably be a more attractive prospect then. A lot of people looking for a youngster these days want something that by 4 or 5 is already schooling nicely, done a few competitions etc. Despite the fact shes been a broodmare for the last year, I think the fact that shes a 6yr old who has done nothing but hack out, would put a few people off, particularly for the price.

I'd LOVE to get her back into work but I have had no takers for loaning or even coming to ride her (all I ask is that whoever rides her pays for her shoes. As much as riding as you like for less than a tenner a week, no stable or field duties . . . .bargain) That's the reason I'm getting so despondent, she'll be stuck in a field for even longer at this rate, BUT I will not insult her breeding and quality by virtually giving her away. A lot of people seem to have taken the quote about meat quite literally, which is actually quite funny. I've had a phone call from someone pleading with me not to send her to the meat man! As if I would! If I do end up with no other option, I would give her away, but then she would have no value and would be treated accordingly and she deserves more than that, although I do agree that something is only worth what someone is prepared to pay. However, there is also the realistic side and since this post started I have had a couple of offers from people who will "take her off my hands for free", I bet they would! There are too many people who want something for nothing.

Well, you did state the meatman! If people aren't biting, it doesn't matter what you paid for her, it means the price is probably too high. I never see arabs making much money tbh. If you are desperate to get rid, drop the price.
