remembering my horse

My horse Simon had to be pts last year. I kept some of his mane and one of his shoes the vet took off for me. I would like to do something with these but am not sure what. Does anyone know of any professional artists that can make these into some kind of jewelry or ornament etc??? Any ideas??

my freind had her horses shoe made into a plaque - i think she had it done by an advert at the back of one of the horse magazines - sorry dont know which - but im sure someone on the forum will know - very sorry for your loss XX

There is definitely a gap in the market for commemorative jewellery. I really needed something like that when my dog died. In the end I bought a plain locket and designed a paw print which I had the jeweller engrave on one side, with her name on the other, and I put a lock of her hair inside. You could do something like that with a horse shoe design, which would be quite straightforward, dunno if that idea appeals to you though.

As for the horse shoe, you'd need a metalwork artist. Have you tried the internet? I don't know what else to suggest.

I had a shoe re-coated from a horse we lost and it now sits pride of place on my coffee table. It was so long ago though I dont know the company - sorry.

Yes when he died i spent my first months livery that i would have spent on Simon, on a nice locket. I put a nice picture in of him but then i kept forgetting to take it off when i had a shower so i now have a nice blank picture inside!!! Was wondering whether anyone actually made anything out of the shoe or hair?

SSM - thanks for that, I lost my lad last year and only have a small piece of his tail, the companies I tried said it wasnt enough, however they do the perfect pendant for my wee bit of tail...

A guy who goes into where my OH works makes plant pot holders out of old horse shoes.

Have also seen in one of the magazines, Horse or Horse and Rider i think, adverts for making jewellery out of horse hair.

stinkerstonkersmum, i love that website and would have had the broach but looking at it they need a piece of hair 28 inches long and unfortunatley Simons is not this long and now i cant get any more

Its a good idea for my new pony though ........... well thinking about it he's only 29 inches tall full stop so even his tail isnt that long
