Had my 2 minutes silence - did the mucking out and went and stood in the field at 11 with no phone or iPod or distractions just me and the silence.
We will remember them.
Saw this on Twitter posted from WarHorse on Stage:
Fading away like the stars in the morning
Losing their light in the glorious sun
Thus would we pass from this earth and its toiling
Only remembered for what we have done
Only the truth in the fife we have spoken
Only the seed that in life we have sown
These shall pass onwards when we are forgotten
Only remembered for what we have done
Wholl sing the anthem and wholl tell the story
Will the line hold will it scatter and run
Shall we at last be united in glory
Only remembered for what we have done
Thought it was very moving.
Remembering all who have given their lives in conflicts past and present, including the brave animals. Rest In Peace.
I was pulled from my field, from my work, from my play Ne'er again to see England in Lands far away, Through death and destruction, Through blood, sweat and tears, I carried my master along with my peers. So tomorrow I ask you, to remember a while, Along with the soldiers in smart rank and file, Remember our beauty, the strength of our kind, As we galloped through danger without care to mind. For we were the horses, thrust in to war, And we gave up our lives for your peace evermore. The War horse. 1914-18. We will remember them...
By Will H. Ogilvie, [part of a poem about the remount horses in WW1]
"....and let them find, in those far lands, kindly hearts and horseman's hands"
It's going to be on my tombstone when I hoppit!
And I'm so glad I'm not the only one who goes away at 11a.m.and stands in the field with my phone switched off. My mare wears a poppy twisted in her forelock on 11/11 to remind me - and any passer-by who asks - of the 5 million animals (horses, donkeys, mules, dogs, carrier pigeons, camels) who lost their lives because of man's inhumanity to man. We are a disgrace to the planet - and no, I'm not a pacifist........R.I.P. all who died.
I live near a military base, and it's been a very sad day.
When I was in the RSPCA, I went to a service at Westminster Cathedral in honour of all the animals that lost their lives in the wars - I'll never forget that. There was a programme on last night about the horses, taped it, but not brave enough to watch it..
Though I did watch the recent Our War documentaries, and was just shocked after each one . Some of the lads who survived the worst now how severe PTSD. More lives totally ruined.
