Going to put on and use the removable tow hitch on our car for the first time on the weekend. Just wondered if anyone else uses one and if they've ever had any problems?? Only ever had one that was left on constantly before! Thanks

I have one on my VW Toureg. I've had no problems but we insisted the VW dealership we bought the car from put it on..... my husband was adamant that he would only buy the car if dealers put on the tow bar. He didn't like the idea of any old garage doing it after the sale.... Sorry if this doesn't help but I would definitely do my homework on the guys fixing it for you.

Do ALL hitches not come off then? I am probably thinking of the wrong thing here, the bit with the ball or pin, yes?
Ours just slides in and is pinned, we always take it off as it sticks out a fair bit. We have a bunch of hitches, because our trailers have different sized fittings - irritating.

It's been fitted by the dealership onto the car (Range Rover Sport) just have never actually put the 'ball' bit on and wanted to check that anyone didn't have any horror stories of them coming off!!! Will be trying without the horse in the trailer first just incase I think....! Wanted to put my mind at rest as been a fair few years since I've used a trailer and never had any experience or even know of anyone who uses this type. Thanks

@ Enfys - I think legend22 is referring to the ones that are "removable" (just the "extension" and ball bit) as opposed to the whole thing or the "agri" type set up. Car ends up looking like it doesn't have a tow hitch on it at all unless you know what you are looking for. I know the ones you mean cos I also had one. The one fitted to my car at the mo is put on with a key and slides round to lock into position.

Note detail top right. Very difficult to explain and I raised an eyebrow when first shown this! But it is very secure.

Legend22 - I have done all sorts with my tow hitch. Never had a problem.

Thanks Crazy Friesian, yes that's the type. Still getting my head round the 'you can take it on and off' thing! OH doesn't want to spoil 'the lines' of his car ha,ha! but it's a long journey and want to share the driving, so, as he doesn't have a HGV to drive my lorry we're trying out the tow hitch for the first time. Thanks for putting my mind at rest :-)

Thought that I might have been confused. ;)

This is what we use, the ball is added separately so can be changed. It just slides in. Very easy to use and check.
