We would like to warn everybody about the danger of these mirrors after our horse was horrifically killed by them, after accidentally kicking one of them. These mirrors are sold with a BSEN 12600 impact test on them, which is a standard commonly used for gym mirrors. This test involves a 45kg weight dropped onto a standardly sized pane of glass, a safety standard obviously not appropriate to equine use. [removed].

Yes, I remember a similar previous thread, is this another case?

I'm sorry for the loss of your horse, it must have been horrifying.

ETA. Cross posted with the above. Still not sure if it is the same horse?
Had a look, has the same image that was attached from this thread and that other thread. Still horrific though 😢

It was a horrific accident and I'm so sorry you lost your horse in such an awful way.

I believe the fitting advice for that standard of mirror is that they should be backed directly onto a solid surface with no gap behind them. Anyone with these mirrors on an arena they use probably needs to check that or stay well away from them.

Thanks for alerting us, and sorry again for your loss.

I'm very sorry.

As I posted on the other thread, I was told 11 years ago by a rival company who we used to supply and fit our arena mirrors (complete with galvanised sheet metal safety backing) that [removed] was selling dangerous unbacked arena mirrors 😳.

I know that my mirrors were manufactured by Pilkington's Glass, as there was a glitch with a couple of them which had some distortion, and the Pilkingtons peeps came out for a look. The distorted mirrors were replaced FOC.
