Removing field bindweed??

I have now started to move the ponies over to the half of the field that has been rested since winter, I am strip grazing this gradually but have noticed the bit I will need to move on to shortly has rather a lot of field bindweed. What is the best way to get rid of this? I have tried pulling it but it goes on forever!! I believe it can be harmful in large quantities, is this correct?

You are right in thinking that bindweed is harmful to horses.

The only way to really get rid of it is to use a weedkiller with glyphosate in it; ie. Roundup. Glyphosate is a translocater therefore it will kill off the whole plant in a couple of weeks.

The speed in which this plant grows is extraordinary and you won't be able to pull it up quicker than it can grow.

How harmful? Fields at my livery yard have got it in, including the one my horses are in. What damage does it do & what should I look out for? I'll mention it to YO & see if I can get anything done though I doubt I'll have much luck - they do nothing about bracken growing in some of the hedges

We have got it but have found with regular topping the grass is rallying.
