Removing mud from horses legs

My mare is semi-retired in field and has really thick, cakes in mud on her legs.

Any way I can get this off, as currently hosing them does nothing?

Bring in ...wash and dry and apply pig oil..would be my solution. Mud doesn’t reach skin and will fall off when dry.

Can you stand her in over night with a deep straw bed. The straw will dry and remove most over the mud then you can brush the rest out and pig oil it to make it easier going forward.

Really needs to be dry but I find a cactus cloth the best thing for mud removal...

She lives out 24/7 so not an option. They have a new walkway between two fields now so I’m hoping it will reduce the mud fingers crossed!

A cactus cloth is a real ‘must have’ for any grooming box.

I'm not sure I would put a metal curry comb to a horse's skin -but magic brushes and similar work. They do have to be dry though. If you scrub at wet mud you'll make it worse. Can you bring your mare in for a day? Get her legs thoughtly washed, dried then slathered in pig oil? Then all you need every 2 - 3 days is to hose off, dry and re-apply the oil.

I’ve had this in the past with my hairy grey who lives out. You need to wet the mud first, let it soak in for a bit, then it should be easier to get off. Try using a magic brush or similar to help.

I am an absolute convert to the Nettex Muddy marvel 7 day cream.
Now I just wash off once a week, dry well and apply generously. It really helps stop the mud sticking.

If you use the side carefully and not full on it’s a great tool. I used it on my hand before hand to check after an old man friend of mine recommended it
