Phone call at 8 am this morning went something like this "your pony has jumped out the field - i think you better get the vet - he has wood sticking out of him" - he had been fine when i left him at 6.30.
Called vet - and bless him he was their in 20 mins (hope he hasnt got speeding tickets!) - i arrived at yard just before him and i really was expecting the worst. He was still standing and looking very very quiet.
He had managed to jump out over a 5 bar gate and a water trough and land on the drive way.... how he has not got broken knees i will never know and his only major injury is a 2 and a half inch puncture wound to the heel part of his frog oh and about 5 little grazes.
Vet was fantastic - he wasnt mad that he had come out in such a panic - which i would have been after the description i had given! I did apologise for this as i had not seen the horse when i phoned. He has been washed out with peroxide and been given a jab of antibiotics and is on box rest till Wed. Was told to phone vet if he wont put weight on it but we should have prevented much infection due to the speed he was treated and the fact he was still bleeding.
I have only just realised how deep the puncutre was to think he was pouring bright red blood from his frog but how lucky was he !
So he will be called cat from now on... hopefully he has another 8 lives left ....
