Renault Master Horsebox 1990 reg..

All I can say is we have a Renault Master, built by Marlborough Horseboxes and it's been brilliant. Don't know about getting 2 x 17.2hh in it though - one, it would be overweight, and secondly, heads would be bent over. We did in an emergency put one of our 17hh in and she had to travel diagonally in that to give her enough room.

We've got a Y reg with a 6 year old body on it and am about to advertise ours immediately after christmas - purely for financial reasons. If ever we get ourselves sorted out money wise - would definitely buy another one with no hesitation. Marlborough ones tend to hold their value very well.

Running costs are brilliant - no more than any other car and drive exactly like a car.

How much would yours be worth on a Y reg? :)
 
Some are excellent. However we had one built and they used a duff chassis. Within months we discovered we had to replace the engine. The engine had to be imported from France. The bill ran into thousands. If buying go for a reputable manufacturer like Marlborough. Obviously I cannot post on here who made ours but you can pm me of course. The good news is that we sold the box and the new owner who has the benefit of the new engine is having trouble free driving.
 
I have a 1988 Renault Master, it is however a Theault so paid a premium for the name. One previous owner, 103k miles and paid between £5 and £6k. Have had it 2 years and absolutely love it, it is built like the proverbial brick outhouse :D. Would only ever carry one horse in it though, it has a 1100kg payload so could do 2 ponies at a push. I budget £1k per year for service and MOT and haven't used all the budget yet, required some welding underneath last year and work to the steering column year before, nothing too major.
 
I paid £10K for an N reg with FSH and very low miles 3 years ago. Its absolutely bullet proof and a really good box BUT the older ones are alot less stable I think. I couldn't travel my 16.2 on his own as all weight on driver side and felt awful. I think the newer ones have better suspensions though. I ended up having another partition built and travelling him centrally - bliss!

Well I contacted Marlborough themselves with all the details, and they reckoned that if I was to take it to them, they would advertise it for £15,000 as they have queues of people waiting for them.

So, we intend advertising it first of all for around £13,750. Have already been approached by a couple of racing trainers (as they seem to go for the Marlborough) who said when we are ready to sell, to let them know. They were quite happy with the price we said - and it will include the new owners own graphics being put on (ours will be removed by professional graphics company). Holding onto it for as long as we can, but now with my car off the road (see Soapbox re Annoyed with Insurance Company) might now have to advertise it sooner rather than later to get some money in for general bills.
