Anyone tried them? I want to leave my lad barefoot but with hoof boots for longer rides if he needs them. The renegades look like a good design but feedback would be useful. I can't use a boot with a gaiter as if the boot happens to come off for any reason and flapped about he could panic, so I would rather it stayed on or flew all the way off. I will ask my farrier when I next see him, but i wondered if anyone here had any experiences. Thanks!

Me! Here's a photo of my lad in his Renegades:

They're too big for him now as his feet were very flared when his shoes came off and he now fits into Easyboot Gloves. The Renegades are really good boots but overall I prefer the Gloves for fit, easy of use, availability, price and simplicity.

Yes, I use renegades on Charlies back feet, highly reccommend them. The only drawback is that they do not stay on in gallop and come off. Apart from that Charlie can walk, trot and canter in these happily and can also jump in these. On his front feet he wears old mac g1 hoof boots with gaiters and these have never come off yet even on boggy mountain ground they stayed on. These will stay on in gallop and he can also jump happily in them.

Thanks for your replies, you say you find the easy boot gloves easier to use - are the renegades hard to put on/take off? My horse is good with his feet but his patience does have a limit, so the less time spent faffing around the better. However I do have a real concern that if the gloves did come off they would then flap around off the gaiter part, and knowing my boy he would go absolutely demented and hurt himself or someone else.

Also, how did you introduce yours to them? He isn't the type of horse where you can just do something new and expect him to be fine with it, he is really sensitive, although getting better every day. I was thinking of starting off putting over reach boots on him to get him used to things around his coronets/pasterns.

Renegades do come off completely when they do go (deep mud did it for us), so long as you do not do the pastern strap too tight. They're not hard to fit, but it took me a couple of times to find the easiest way (even having read all the advice on the website). They are excellent if the horse has round feet (I found Easyboot gloves fine for the hinds but they twisted round and popped off his round fronts).

We use renegades for our Arab and Quaterhorse, front feet only. They are by far the easiest boots to put on, and we have never had an issue with them comming off in any sort of conditions or any gait.

As they are an American design and manufacture, they are obviously well suited for both Arabs and Quarterhorses, therefore, there may well be problems with bigger horses with large feet.

Ours were imported by us, as we could not find a supplier in the UK at that time.

We have found them to be durable, well made and appear to be very horse friendly as there has been no issues with rubbing or any sort of soreness.

I believe that it is important to have the proper sized boot for the horse as the sizing and measurements were very precise when we ordered them.

Overall I would highly recommend them. Some nice colours too.

They will come off if feet not trimmed to the design - horses with more upright feet e.g. coldbloods don't have the right lateral hoof shape.

I know where you are coming from with the horse that would flip if the boot ripped of and left the gaiter flapping, my Arab is the exact same and I was worried about the same thing.

The Renegades wouldn't suite her shape of feet (they are very round) so I tried the Old Mac G2 then progressed to the Easyboot Edge. I have not yet lost a boot but I do think the gaiter is smaller than you think and it's very closely fitted. If the boot came off and the gaiter stayed on it would be the equivalent of an over reach boot, it's not bigger or flappier than that! I would say go with whatever boots are going to fit your horse's feet best rather than avoiding the gaiters.

That said the renegades get a very good write up, I just couldn't cope with the issues alot of people have with them at a gallop. I gallop at least once a week in the summer and I've never lost an Easyboot doing so.

i have used 3 types of hoof boot on my extravagent lusitano mare....first i started off with cavallos which were brilliant! when her feet changed shape i tried the easyboot gloves, i thought they were going to be great...but went through 3 gaiters! everytime it was in canter or gallop! so then i tried the renegades....they are amazing and they dont move at all! and you can just wash them off and they are ready for next time!:)

I have rennies and love them, wouldn't have anything else.

For ease of getting on and off can't beat them IMO,takes seconds and requires very little effort.Have never had one come off either,I only use them on the fronts though not sure if they are different in that respect if used on the hinds??

I tried the gloves as a trial from my trimmer, used them once and told her she could have them back!! I found them really difficult to get on and off, felt like I wanted a lot more muscle and a shoe horn!! I know many people love them, but I don't like things I have to faff with and they seemed much more of an effort than the rennies.Haven't tried any other makes to compare with so no further help there lol.

Only downside I can think of for the rennies is the price and the difficulty of getting hold of them, although I believe there are more suppliers in the UK now so that may have improved.

Renegades are suitable for very round feet, much more so than any Easyboots. My tb has completely round feet and the renegades are perfect but with Easyboot Gloves they need the power strap and the fit isn't so good. Easyboots are bringing out Wide boots though in the summer for rounder hooves.

Totally agree, the Renegades are a delight to put on and never come off but the Gloves are a real nightmare struggle, I wouldn't be able to take then on and off during a ride which I could with the renegades. The renegades have rubbish grip though on wet grass.

Hi i was doing a google search on these boots and this thread came up. I have a 4yo 15.2 (and still growing!!) arab gelding and want some boots for the stony track rides we do, and he been advised to get these by a friend.

Does anyone know if they now have a uk distributor?
