Has anyone else experienced the rubber splitting under the classic toungue? It's an expensive £100 boot for the rubber to crack after only 5 x uses...just one boot but I've noticed the rubber is much thinner there than on the newly designed vipers.

I'm kind of in a trial period (though lengthy communications mean I'm outwith the trial period now) and today tried the viper captivator with classic boots. It's better and not twisting as much but I feel i've really cranked the cable to get it to seem secure. I also have to fight to get the captivator up some how. It doesn't look as easy as the video they have. How tight is too tight?

The viper of same size 140x140 is the same size as the classic I think but it doesn't go on easily, I have to tuck out the back edge to get on the hoof. They don't twist so badly on the fronts though. I've been advised that the classics of same size will allow more room for growth but I struggle to get them to stay on so well.

Not an easy case as horse transitioning and wall separation so hoof still to grow down.

Do I persevere?? They are sooooo expensive and I've probably spent a fortune just on the hire and fit kit that I'm going to be very out of pocket what ever I do now... Am exasperated....

they are very good boots, if the rubber has split after only 5 uses I would send them back under guarantee. I have some that are years old with no cracking.
Re yr 2nd para, I don't crank up the cable. When they are correctly adjusted I can pull the captivator down over the back, put them on and then lift the captivator over the heels. It is not loose, just clears the heels but definitely not fighting to get it up. From what you say I think you are trying to overtighten the wires to get them to fit. I find with renegades they fit or they don't fit, that is it. Very black and white.

There is a difference in size between the viper and classic of the same size. For example I can get a 140 x 140 classic on mine but not a viper as the front is more pulled in and it is a more fitted shape.

I don't find renegades allow room for growth. They fit and I find I have to keep the foot well trimmed to keep them fitting. That can be touching up every couple of weeks or even more often in the fast summer growing period. I have seen posts on the renegade FB page where people ask what to do when the feet outgrow the boots after 3 weeks and are surprised they have to trim.

Are you talking about twisting when actually riding or just when they are on the feet. For example some of mine twist if I put them on and try to twist them by hand yet out riding they are fine. I have one who twists his hind foot on landing and renegades twist badly on it. There is nothing I can do about it, cranking it up tight doesn't help. It is just a case the renegades are not for his hind feet.

I think they may well be a boot for a horse with transitioned feet, although some just out of shoes will fit well into them. I think I would look at how the hoof is going to turn out, how much to still grown down and if you have any idea what shape it will be eventually. That may help your decision.

I'm not sure from you post if you own vipers and classics or either or they are on loan? For many newly deshod horses I would use the cheapest boot I could find, possibly cavallos, as the feet with change shape

You don't have to have the same boots on all 4 feet of course, you could mix vipers and classics or alternatively use say vipers in front and something else behind.

I've a pair of classics for fronts and vipers for hinds after trying the fit kit these seemed the best options to hire with view to buy. Though after the classics not being great on the front and always seeming to twist I've been trying the viper on the front and seem more secure, it's just I have to tuck the last heel bit around the hoof if that makes sense. I'm certainly not experiencing the freedom pic of horse galloping up a rocky mountain yet!

I have cavallos but they rub...she's quite a thin skinned mare... hence trying the renegades.

The twist is when riding.

One idea may be to send the classics back from loan, not buy and use a mix of vipers and cavallos until her hooves grow out a bit. I'm fortunate I can ride straight on to beach and machair tide permitting so just need boots for crap weather days up forestry tracks....Just need to find solution to cavallos rubbing.... sigh.... I hoped booting might have got easier with all the options on the market these days!
 
I think more so than a lot of the others that renegades do work better with a transitioned foot with a good mustang roll etc. It's just what they were designed for. We got a away with gloves from day one but I'm not sure how usual that is as to a certain extent the same applies. There are a lot of options and if you find one that works for you it is great I promise, I was lucky we got there straight away.

If they are twisting I would try something else at this point. Do you think this is down to how she moves?
 
Speak to the people you got them from. Unless you have abused them you should be due a refund or replace, and maybe they will suggest some that fit better
