Hello! I would love to hear any experiences of people who have an old trailer that they've renovated themselves. I have a 1998 505 with a rotten side (thanks to a pony having a tantrum in it a while ago, pulling the side a bit loose and then us stupidly not repairing it straight away...).

How did you patch it up? New IW panels vs home-made panels? New windows? Painted? And how on earth does anyone remove the million rusty old bolts???!!

Hope to hear and see some great Before and Afters - thank you!

You will probably need an angle grinder around the bolts. If you can get new IW panels, go for those over "home-made"

My partner renovated an old one for me a couple of years ago now, didn't need to replace side panels but did put a new floor in, new brakes and electrics, also had to make an internal partition as there wasn't one and replace the rear ramp. He wired brushed then used plus gas (similar to WD40) to penetrate thru rust, left over night and if then still wouldn't undo cut them out. I know you can buy ready made panels so in terms of fit that might be best idea? We also painted it. got pics somewhere if u want to see them :-)

My hubby renovated our ancient IW trailer. It was so old we couldn't get ready made panels so used Gorilla Board instead. It worked really well and is very tough.

Yes please, would like to see photos thanks. Trouble with ready made panels for me is the cost - about £200 each or £500 fitted. Seems a bit much considering what the box is worth. So if we can diy all the better! Not heard of gorilla boards I'll have a look.

Yikes thats gone up a bit since I got a quote. I got quoted £600 for a new ali floor and both sides replacing from an IW dealership, it is a few years ago though.

If you want it to last I'd go with the "right" ones.

I had my trailer floor replaced. I could have done it in ply, but I've had it done in hardwood instead. More expensive but will last an awful lot longer

My Dad did mine. Angle grinder for the bolts. We ordered the side off Ivor. Took 3 months to arrive despite chasing loads, no updates or apologies off Ivor and from threads on here, that is normal service...

Yes I've heard it can take an age for parts to come from Ifor. And when I contacted them to find prices, they won't actually deliver such a big part as a side panel (though don't suppose I blame them) so it would have to go to a distributor and I'd have to pick it up from there - the nearest to me is almost a 100 mile round trip + ferry which I'd like to avoid! Other half already discovering the joys of trying to remove the bolts! Sounds as though you've a very useful Dad, wish I could borrow him!!
