I'm getting home to Northern Ireland from uni this Summer and am desperate to get back to the horses (had to sell mine over a year ago). I have been offered the ride on a lovely mare who has a classy jump. I'm really looking foward to getting stuck in when I get back.

Heres the thing - I'm now old enough to "do it all myself" according to the parentals. I have a fab set up at home - 60x30 school with full set of showjumps, plenty of good grazing, starvation paddock for the fatties or competition horses. Stables in a very secure place, tackroom etc etc. I'm thinking I might try to get people in to rent the stables to help me with a bit of money to keep this new mare.

What do you think? How should I go about this and if I was to offer a sort of part time livery should I be considering anything I haven't thought of? I,m just thinking that if I have to look after my own why not help look after someone else's to save time and make some money (feed in morning, turn out and muck out etc).

Keeping a horse on a part time job - going to be fun!!!

Loughinisland - its about 5mins drive from tullymurray so good for schooling! Good hacking and so on as well. If you hear of anyone looking for somewhere private to keep the nag gimme a shout! Thanks!

Sounds like a brill idea, and a bit of company for you as well.

Loughinisland is quite central, so I'm sure you could get anyone, from ponies (maybe not though if you don't want children and their parents about your home all the time) to hunters to eventers.

Your parents might have to check the small print on their home insurance though.

I posted on here a while back about letting neighbours use my sand school, and sadly the conclusion was that I would be daft to (because of the insurance implications).

If I didn't have my own land, I would much prefer a private yard like yours, rather than a large livery yard.

Good luck, and let us know how you get on.

Fiona
