We've put up a reolink camera. The PT go, solar panelled 4g one.

We put it on a pile in the corner of the yard.

It is brilliant for being able to see the whole field and the yard is close up which is great.

What I'm slightly disappointed with is the motion detecting / alerts / recording.

I'm not sure if it is just me or not though.

If I put the pir sensor on then it sends alerts through, but only when things are right under the camera. So I get nothing, then get 20 alerts in a row because the horses have decided to come down into that corner. The pir doesn't work for anything further away though.

I have person and vehicle detection on but my wife has been up this morning, car parked within the camera view and has walked about picking up poo, but nothing was picked up.

Am I missing something on the setup?

At the moment it is great for live checking on them but nothing else.

If you use it just with the solar panel and not mains electricity you will find that unless you turn off the pir setting and the recording it will very quickly run down the battery. Also in very cold weather the battery will drain quickly. I use mine only for live viewing now which is somewhat disappointing but I have found through trial and error that unless it's in a area that not much happens the constant alerts will just run down the battery.
You could always contact Reolink customer services who are helpful. Or join the Facebook page which has helpful tips. You may find a way to use it ad you wish. Unfortunately I have found its ok for just checking in on horses in real time but that's about it. Hope you have more luck!

Yes just off solar panel so far. Struggling to get it to go below 80% battery though at the moment. Even with many alerts. I realise that now is the optimum time for sun, but it seems to charge quickly. After lunch time it sits at 100% until sunset, then slowly drops overnight, morning continues with a slight drop as it isn't angled towards the sunrise. Then it recovers nicely again. We do have 12v solar at the field which could be used in some way to top it up but the logistics wouldn't be easy to actually use it.

You might be lucky but I have also had to have 3 replacement cameras as they stopped charging. When they are working they are great but they are a bit temperamental. You are lucky so far with the battery but I have found in a stable etc with constant moving the alerts and recording will drain the battery. Have a look on the Facebook page it will give you some tips. Good Luck.

I have 2, one close enough to the gate to point at it and get alerts if needed, the other with motion detection off as pointed at horses. I have had them a year, both charge perfectly even in winter. One pointed at gate picks up people and cars and you can set an alarm noise to go off if triggered.

Maybe I have just been unlucky then but 3 replaced cameras one replaced solar panel and one replaced battery makes me a little cautious.

I have had one camera replaced as the previous one the charge port failed. In winter had to keep taking it home to charge up as the solar panel wasn’t enough on sunless foggy days.

You can set the sensitivity in the settings under PIR Motion sensor and set it to on and the sensitivity can be changed from 0 to 100. I have mine set at 85 and it picks up motion near and far but not going overboard on every blade of grass blowing in the wind!

Great camera’s and customer service was brilliant when I had to contact them with the faulty one.

How far away are the moving things and what sensitivity is it set to. For vehicles it should trigger if they are within 10-15m of the camera if on high sensitivity. Being within the view of the camera means nothing, it has to be within range of the infra red light. The two things aren’t the same.
